I have been playing poker for a while now and I usally play at house games no limit. There is one house game where the table stake is 50 dollars and the pot limit is 10. I been searching for some kind of strategy but I fail to find it. It's like players would just chase thier card because its only 10 dollars. there is no blinds or ante. I sometimes question if this Is real poker. I mean a 10 dollar limit with 50 dollar stake. Please pass any kind of advice Poker chat family.:shakehand

So the amount YOU are allowed to put in is $10?

Or is the total pot not to exceed $10?

Only allowed to bet 10 max, you can reraise up to ten too. Its like I play because a lot of ppl be there but really I don't see any strategy to it. Like the majority of all hands go to the river, where as in some games where I play no limit most action take place before flop.

Just ask politely to change the format to pot limit. Plus, if no one folds, then made hands should get paid off all the time.

You want to play worse players, thats how you make money. Just tighten up and wait for monsters.

@ jmil I agrre with you but my state doesnt allow me to deposit to the poker sites anymore and I live in south carolina far from casinos but do travel to them from time to time. I guess my problem is I like poker a lot and like to play often. Its just that this game is closer. There are other games I go to too with 200 and up buy ins and I love those games ( real poker) I guess my question for this game is that its a lot of money with people who really dont know how to play poker. @ dufferdevon I have asked for the group to change it many times but they are stuck with it. I just hate when I hit trips Aces ( AA is my hand) and I get beat out because a person stayed around because they caught a 2 on a flop of ( A, K, 2) 2 and A is diamonds. They catch runner, runner diamond and get a flush with a J of diamonds. Where I usally play J,2 would never see a flop if another player has AA. Just really wanted to know is there a strategy to this theory of play or should I just stick to other games and forget this spot.

when the stakes suck like that, the players suck equally the same. More then 3 people going to the river is bad news for most monster hands. :(

Thanks for the reply's I guess I only ask the question, just to hear what I already knew. I know its wasnt real poker but in the back of my mind I felt maybe there was a strategy that I didn't know about. It's hard leaving that kind of money in the house ( Im talking 5,000 easy a night) but like one of you guys say. Terrible players and so many making it to the river is never good. I TRULY KNOW!!! You guys just helped me made it offical. IM DONE WITH THIS SPOT!!

I would wait for the good ones and push them. Eventually, the leaders will with the % that they need to, and you will profit. GL and take care

As for the home game rules. We play every Fri nite, and make our rules as close to the "casino" or "wsop" rules as we can get. Makes for a very organized game.

yotalover, I hear you and would strongly agree but there is know real way to push them. If I hit the best hand on the flop, It can easily change with the next two cards. I can only bet 10 or check raise ( 20) there is really no way of pushing someone around. In this game players would call ,3 Q just because they have a face card and would ride it to the end regardless of whats on the board. Im open to all strategy, but I don't think there is one. Can give you an example on what I do ( my play style) I only call suited connectors , high pocket pairs, or just good connectors. Still people would stay around for anything. I feel its better If I go to my local gas station and give them 50 dollars for lottery tickets . LOL

Is there really a strategy???

Was explaining to a poker buddy why I stopped playing at this house game, he replied that every type of poker has a strategy it just takes time to find some of them more then others. for this game he explained that It just takes a lot of patience . He also explained that a " real poker " should easily get rich when playing at a spot where there is no blinds, no ante and such a small limit...Does anyone agree???

Might as well play BINGO. From what I've read, there really is no strategy at that game.

If the players don't want to change the format of the game, maybe a boost in stakes will help. Instead of $50 buy in with $10 beting cap (only 5 bets?? that's nuts!!), try upping it to a $200 buy in with a $20 betting cap.

I assume at this point that with the $50 buy in, most players are constantly e-buying anyways, and maybe the higher stakes up fromt will calm them down a bit. But as far as strategy goes, in a game where there is no entry requirement (SB/BB) there really is no strategy. ATC goes and since it's cheap enough it's all about having the best hand after the board is dealt, pre-fopl and flop play are essentially gone.

Honestly, I would advise to just stop playing that horrible, horrible game. Save your buy-in for a proper format NLHE game.

I, for one, do not agree with your poker buddy. Find a better game.

@ The KAAHK, I guess I dont agree either since I asked. It just seems like your not playing poker at this game at all!!! Anybody can just play two cards , there is no logic or theory to this kind of madness .

I live in upstate SC, and I have not had a problem depositing. Although it has been 2 months since my last deposit, you should try Full Tilt or poker stars. I know a few buddies around here who have deposited recently. Also, for live play try Harrahs Cherokee in NC. There is not a single deck of cards in the whole place, but lately I have been killing the $3/$6 Limit HE on their PokerPro tables.

This sounds like a terrible way to play the game. I gave up playing poker with my friends awhile ago because it just wasn't fun. If your playing with people who can't fully comprehend or understand the game as much as you, then alot of the fun dissapears. That $10 pot limit sounds terrible too.
