It can be one or the other, or both. When it becomes a disease it is very difficult to detect it without help. Like everything in life there are very good stories, but also sad stories. It never happened to me, but I know people who do well and others who do not.

I think it can be both. There are days that I spend most of the day playing poker (mostly weekends) and I think it’s ok, because I’m having fun and I only do that when I don’t have anything important to do. But when the player miss work days or friends and family reunions to play poker then the hobby is becoming an addiction.

I don’t gamble, poker is not gambling, poker is strategic investment. If I ever do play a gamble game, it’s not gambling to me, it’s throwing money away for the purpose of entertainment. I have absolutely no hopes in winning anything or coming ahead by ‘gambling’.

It's tough to have a daily program and follow through with it. That's my solution to the problem. Make a few steps forwards every day and then stop.

Undoubtedly, there is excitement in poker, but nevertheless this is not roulette or a lottery, but a game that requires constant perfection and laborious work, so this is definitely a passion that makes us sit down at the table and play again and again!)

Can absolutely be both. Anything can be an addiction with an addictive personality. There’s a rush you get from winning which can be chased.

Assign or addiction

Lol often times it starts off as passion and devolves into addiction. I think breaks are really important if you can manage to remind yourself. That and eating and sleeping lol.

Poker is gambling just like the casino who offers blackjack is gambling as well. There's a chance the casino can lose.
The Casino/Operator isn't gambling in poker. Every player playing poker has a chance they will lose or win.

There are some sitautions in poker where it isn't gambling such as when you have a 100% chance of winning. Comes up every now and then but most of the time there's a chance of losing.

You could say long term you have a 100% chance of winning which a casino has in table games and some players in poker might also have. So I would say it's gambling for most players long term and short term apart from the occasional 100% chance of winning and sometimes not for some players long term.

Sort of both, depends on your attitude
If you play, lose and go away it's passion, if you do it again again and again it's addiction :D

It depends on the individual, for me i think it's both passion and addiction in some degree.

Here is how you beat the gambling addiction.

Do what everyone else does.....Open a stock broker account with Ameritrade or Etrade...etc.

You'll make a ton more $$ than you will here, I guarantee it! : )

Hello. Poker, to me, is both. A love for the game and the fun makes it addictive.

It could be, but just because you enjoy playing doesn’t mean you are a gambling addict.

Hi!

I think there's some addiction in it. For example, when I was playing a cash game and accompanied by my girlfriend in vain he told me to go home I didn’t want to. I had won enough, but I didn't want to leave. I thought once the cards came so well, you shouldn’t stand up. Decide for everyone whether it’s addiction or good thinking.

I think poker is a game that is only worth playing with passion and if the passion is over but you can't get up from the table then it's addictive.

In poker you can stop on time, in casinos you can't !!! In a casino until you lose all the money or win a good amount (which is very rare) it will be hard to stop.
