Poker Movies

One of my friends showed me a poker movie a few weeks ago, Rounders. I really liked it, not just because of the poker topic but because I also really like Matt Damon and Edward Norton. The latter always makes great movies.

I was just wondering, are there any other poker or card-game related movies out there you would suggest?

nope rounders is the best..if ya want a good laugh there is a short out there called the micro's.... its hillarious

The movie "21" is good it is about black jack, and "lucky you" with Robert Duvall is another good one, check them out!!

If you can handle old movies:

- Cincinatti Kid is great. Looks at 5 card stud a long time ago.

- California Split looks at the degenerate nature of gambling and has a cameo from Amarillo Slim

The Cooler

I watched a film a few years ago called The Cooler
which was about a guy who was paid by a casino to play at
a table where someone was winning cos he brought them
back luck

I cant even remember if it was a good film or no but it did
involve poker, although not as the central theme

William H Macy played the Cooler. It was a cool flick.

I really liked Lucky You - it's Eric Bana and Robert Duvall basically retelling the Chris Moneymaker story but from the perspective of the Vegas pros that were around at the time. It seems to get a lot of love/hate responses though, a some people like it but a lot of others hate it (possibly because of Drew Barrymore's sappy performance in it).

Deal with Burt Reynolds, The Grand with Woody Harrelson , Shade with Sylvester Stallone.

You guys have picked some awesome movies.

Rounders, and Cinn kid Are absolutely fantastic poker movies.

Cool Hand Luke isn't really about poker, but its just such a good movie that it should be on any great movie list.

Rounders is a classic, spectacular movie and truly does show a great viewpoint of the life of "grinders" in the poker world.

I know marginal would recommend the cincinnati kid but i still like rounders best

Thanks for all the recommendations guys! I'm on a winter break right now so I'll definitely check them out. The same friend has actually also recommended cincinnati kid to me, so will watch that first.

anyone know where you can watch rounders online? cant find it anywhere, would love to watch it, been searchin for a good poker movie for a long time...

watch poolhall junkies it is exactly the same as this movie just pool and really funny

21 isn't a poker movie but it still deals with vegas and is a great movie imo

No I would recommend California Split then Cinci Kid then Rounders and then Rounders 2

No mention of Maverick? I liked that movie.

Rounders is quite obviously the quintessential mention here.. I am in a live poker league where you're specifically not allowed to make more than 3 Rounders quotes on a table.. ;-)

Some other great gambling movies though.. which I think deserve mention..
Casino, which is a more hands on look at the early vegas operations then the godfather, but still with Deniro..

The Sting.. an oldie but a goodie...

And on the blackjack super obsessive gambler side of the fence.. get "Owning Mahoney".. it's about a banker who stole money and took trips to atlantic city and vegas... based on a true story and has Phillip Seymour Hoffman in it..

I think Rounders is the best.
