So as I'm approaching hour 2 of waiting to have myoil changed it's made me realize how many of the important skills of poker can help you in life. For example, patience, variance (next time this goes faster..,hopefully), chhosing a good table (next time I might want to go somewhere else). Most importantly, not getting upset about what you can't control (unlike the lady across from me who is convinced the louder she sighs and glares at the mechanic, the faster he'll work). Sometimes you just have to take your bab beat, smile, learn and move on. Think these are skills more people need practice at.

I don't think that waiting two hours to get your oil changed is a bad beat...
I think that waiting 2 hours to get your oil changed but getting a guy saying that he instead broke the motor's baccara is a bad beat!Because then you'll have to wait a lot more for them to fix it(That is if you want these incompetent bastards to fix it!)
...And yes it did happen to me :(!lol

Funny. So as you are waiting for a 2 hour oil change you are thinking "hurry so I can go home and get a real bad beat."

yeah, Jiffy Lube might be the way to go next time.

There are quite a number of poker skills used in real life. This week was getting inside our customer's head and trying to figure out why they were doing the things they were doing.

Ok - THAT is a bad beat. I have a feeling this could quickly turn into a car repair bad beat post...

Perhaps I was making an apples and oranges connection somewhat. I did have a lot of time to over think after I finished reading all the flyers on tire safety. I stand by what I said though. When you're on a bad run of cards, you often have to just take a deep breath and have the patience to wait it out since what you're being dealt is beyond your control. So as I was sitting there I had to remind myself that getting them to move any faster was out of my control (unless I just went bizerk) and I just had to stay patient and wait it out.

Im not surprised that you can get life skills playing poker, but you can get life skills from anything, for example I was on my high school basketball team, I learn lots of stuff from that.

I doubt that donks can many life skills, like patience. I doubt that a guy who goes all in every hand knows when to wait for a good hand, unless he is the luckiest guy in the world and gets aces every time.

Poker skills have many real-world applications:

(1) Slowplaying a big hand- I know who my married boss is nailing and I also know there will be layoffs. Say nothing.

(2) bluffing- I don't need ID. I am 23

(3) Pot odds- ....if buy a kilo, I am getting ounces at less than half price and I know several potheads with fat wads of cash.....ok....I'll take a kilo.
