Hey folks.

I'd like to think I play a fair bit of poker, couple of cash games every other night, but I realised I don't actually read or make an effort to watch much of it on TV. Does anyone else find this?

I catch the odd tournament when flicking through channels, but I've never bought a magazine dedicated to poker or anything like that...am I alone in this respect, given that I play quite a bit...?

The huge explosion in online and live poker is due to TV, it has broadened and popularized the game to the phenomenon it is today. And yes I do learn by watching the pros...
Yes I would say you are alone in that, particularly at places like this forum, where many or most 'active' members read books, mags, watch shows and generally do anything they can to improve their game. Not do do so is like playing in a vacuum, these days....

I watch occasionally but on the whole, live poker is much different than online poker because most of it is tournament play and only dynamic hands are chosen to make the action seem more interesting.

But funniest thing I've ever seen on TV was a heads up match between Phil Helmuth and Tom Dwan. (aka internet sensation durrrr)

Helmuth baited Dwan into going all in preflop with 1010 when Helmuth had AA. Helmuth was just bashing him and Dwan caught trip tens to knock Helmuth out.......

Helmuth said "see if you're around in 2 years." And you know what? I side with Helmuth.....Dwan said it was a standard play......lol......shoving an additional 20 BB heads up is standard.......sometimes I wonder how certain internet up and comers are so successful.

I can not speak for everyone, but I have read 4 books to date. I subscribe to Card Player magazine. Also watch it on TV when ever I have the time. Mainly on TV I look for how they play hands based on position more than anything else. As well as what hands they are selecting to play Mostly because the play on TV is so broken up time frame wise. Squeezeing in 10 to 12 hours of actual play time into 2 hours you can not a true understanding on how someone truly plays his A-game.

I Think P Helmuth is the best Tourney player on the planet , but I have to take durrrr's side . He won ... went to shake hands and the brat went off on his play .. winning play I might add. Then Durrr tossed a huge wad of of CASH on thge table and said play again phil?

He then went on to challenge Phil to a series of cash games (HU$ROLLZZZ)... any time any , where , any amount. So he getsd a ton of points for putting his money where his mout is. Phil Helmuth is a poor sport IMHO .

I watch PAD , High Stakes poker and am always reading . Plus I am an amatuer forum whore . If I could only find a way to make some cash for the hours I spend reading forums.
