I am interested in your opinion, how long do you think poker will last in future? Next 10,50 or maybe 100 years?
Longer? Shorter? Why?

I don't think we've hit a flatline in poker just yet, it's going to continue to grow little by little until poker boom 2.0 hits with online poker regulated in the US. In order for poker to grow exponentially, something has to happen where anyone can participate, not just those that can invest the time into it.

Poker will always exist in some form or the other live. Online is a different beast though. Online is very up in the air right now.

In the next 20 years, poker will surely be popular .. Then there will be exposure, and online poker will be recognized as a scam of the 21st century, because I not believe in fair RNG..

I agree totally. I think your government has realised they can make a lot of money from it. This will force people to move to start to play "underground" poker to avoid tax etc...........

I also think this will cause the growth of on-line poker to be limited in the future, basically if you remove the largest customer base, as they have done, it will restrict it.

Gl all and it would be better with the US back in - so I can win more of their money!! :D:D:D

The assumption that there is a lot of tax revenue in poker is problematic. For example: In 2007 the height of the poker boom, the estimated gross revenue from online poker was 3.2 billion U.S. dollars. Let's assume a high tax rate of 30%. That's 900 million dollars. Barely a blip on the tax revenue of many states (CA for example is 112 billion).

Regarding organized "Underground" games, grinders have long complained about those games because they can't get into them, and when accessible the rake is very high. If by "underground" you mean "Home" games; those have always been the backbone of poker in the U.S.

I guess my point is that poker should be a freedom issue rather than a tax issue.

Cheers!

Card games will last forever. Even if some kind of huge disasters happen (like war or smth). So will poker. While gambling can be frozen by politics, yet there will always be a country where you would be able to play. I don't know, but it will last our lifetime for sure, so no worries :D

When we see poker legal all over the US and other places, you can bet that the money is in the right pockets. It's always about money. For me, I could care less who is making the big money, as long as I can play on any poker site I want to and take just a small amount of the money myself. And like a lot of players have said, poker has been and will be here a long time to come

Why would you think that poker woun't last forever? :p, personally, I think it will last. In argentina it's not a very legal sport, most casinos prohibited, but I think that with a few more years, things are going to change for good.

I think that the development of poker in the future will only grow. Card games have always been popular. Poker is such a unique game in which you can not only spend interesting time, but also to develop thinking and memory. Poker is primarily a mathematician. Poker is a science. These mathematicians will appreciate this remarkable and unique game.

hopefully poker online just improves and not goes away. that would just be stupid to ruin a game so many people love by banning it.

Poker isn't going anywhere. As long as decks of cards are around (in some form or another), poker will be played somewhere.

The online platforms are already trying to get more people into poker. They got the pro streaming on twitch, they created sites like pokerschoolonline, they advertise on tv! So i think poker will keep growing!

+1

There will never be a government windfall from OLP. When that is/has been attempted, the cost of playing gets too high, and players shy away. As players we should be willing to absorb a slight increase in our cost to pay, but nowhere near what some think. About enough to cover the cost for consumer protections should be all we pay.

Poker has been going on for over 100 years now and really dont see it leaving us anytime soon. With online poker starting just about 15 years ago its just the jump start for more years to come. Card playing is a great past time game and it will probably be around for a long long time.
