Cruisin' by Coolio in the background (true story, ha!). Or is it in the background? Feels more like poker is in the background when I type this forum post, hear dinging, make my action and then get back to the forum post while I like songs on Pandora and skip through tracks, check my school assignments, et cetera.

It seems that most are guilty of putting poker effectively in the background of other tasks. Are you? What are you doing while you play poker? How does it affect your game? Do you feel like you're missing an opportunity on the virtual felts in exchange for the ability to do other things and is that a fair trade in your opinion?

I didn't mean to get so many things going on at once before I started this thread. That's actually what prompted me to write this thread. It all started with Pandora Radio. Then I was in the browser... May as well check out the school site as it's only a click away (Homepage). Then I was here, checking subscribed threads and thinking about what hands I might be wanting to review in my own with the super brains here. So, I urge all of the CC members reading this to check out how they're using their time while they play poker. Are you all really dedicating your time to the game; do you even want to be dedicating your time to poker or is it really just a game going on in the background to you? I also urge you to listen to the song that I just liked, "Another Stupid Love Song" by Weird Is the New Cool.

When i begin a session i just concentrate on the tables. After an hour or two i usually go around surfing because you see i am not good at multitabling so playing just one or two table max can make you feel restless after an hour or two.
But i usually don't watch any movies or tv shows and play poker simultaneously.
Only surf for music, news and interesting videos sometimes.

So yeah it's not yet just a game running at the background for me. And will check out the song by the way.

I also do this but I feel like it is because I play FR and on Bovada so there is a 4 table max. Hopefully when I move to a new site I can play 6-12 FR tables and not have time to be distracted.

Good post Benji. As you have admitted to being guilty of putting "poker in the background," I as well have been guilty of this too... As I'm sure 99.8% of us have, at one time or another... I try my very best to limit surfing or other things during a session, and prefer to do them at break. But it doesn't always work out that way. I do feel like it has cost me valuable info in the past, but so be it. I also wouldn't say it's an even compromise, having the ability to do other things while playing. Though it is nice to be able to multi task, I feel it has cost me good opportunities, and I just go into auto pilot. Not fully absorbing the entirety of the table dynamic..
