I was wondering if poker is bad for your health? I'm not just talking about sitting for hours upon hours but when you bluff or put a lot of money into the pot your heart rate goes through the roof as if you were on crack... So is this constant heart pounding from bluffing or addrenaline rushes bad for your health? is there any way (No drugs) to not feel that rush when your bluffing? Does it go away with experience or is it just part of the game?

I never thought about it but this is interesting. Probabely like everyday job you adjust in time. Being a game of skill you do not have the same sensations like you have at the bingo game.

May be it is a problem to our asia people.Because many online tournaments take place in deep night in asia time.So we often have to stay up all night playing the games. That is not good to our health.Sometime,I even think about emigrating to a western countriy one day.

Yes. When I start playing poker I was just like yourself, but in time this will go away. You don't play with money you play with chips, don't think about money because money brings emotions and emotions brings wrong decisions (not rational decisions). When you buy in chips, that's it, that money is gone. If you win a big pot and then think like: ohh man now I've made some cash for a night in the club... it's wrong. You want to be a body with brain not a brain with body. Try to control yourself and you'll be fine.

one great thing about olp is that you can practice staying even keeled rather you have the nuts or trying a well concieved bluff so that when you play live you are not sending tells to all the other players

I believe it does, for some people it increases unnecessary stress, as well as antisocial tendencies for some people. Although I believe if you Reilly concentrate on the game you will not stress and you will better your conciousness. You must exercise, for better self awareness, as well as getting out more. However I believe, I for one gets obsessed with playing, and I must remind myself to not worry, to go with the will of it all.

Wow, I can totally relate to this. When I play live, I try my best to not get anxious when I bluff, but it happens anyways. Although, I don't show any facial expressions, it's really tough to not raise heart rate. It would definitely be good to know whether or not there are repercussions.

I recently heard that sitting for 11hrs+ a day can increase your chances of cancer though.

I think that if you already have some cardiac problems, the abrupt changes in the cardiac frequency can be dangerous. But, like some of others said, the long time sitting, not eating well, not doing exercises and the stress of losing are a lot more dangerous.

Lmao, I know it's a serious question but you are right, sitting on our arses doing nothing, to having your heart jump out of your chest like doing a rail off of a strippers behind. It must not be good, right?

Hmm, I never feel like my heart rate changes that much, but with how much Negreanu's and Matusow's were, I feel like I should get a HR monitor to see if it does.

I'm sure it doesn't help but I'm not a doctor I don't know if being fat effects your heart rate or not but what probably effects his heart rate is his past and being on drugs, at least I think he was on drugs I'm pretty sure he was arrested for selling ectasy and pain killers to undercover officers.....

It would of been nice if they would of had a baseline on their heart rate before they were playing poker at all to see what its like under no stress

but even if he is over weight it doesn't change the fact that it went from a little over 100 to over 120...

On top of that Daniels heart rate went from 60+ to over 100 and Daniel is in great shape...

I had never thought about this but then I do not take poker seriously enough for it to be stressful. Sitting about for long periods is more likely to be a problem than the other stuff as far as I am concerned.
