After playing poker for 5 years, I can’t think of a better statement to describe it. There are obvious benefits to poker: you set your own schedule, you work when you want to work, and your performance is relatively proportional to your income. If you play on the internet, you can work from practically anywhere. Unfortunately, every one of these have a catch. So i`m asking now, it`s hard to have an easy living with this ``job``?

How is it easy living if it hard? That makes no sense.

Easy living? I doubt a very high percentage of players actually live off their poker winnings. And substituting poker for "real work" has left many a life in shambles. Play, enjoy, and best of luck, but keep your day job!

I agree. It just depends on how much effort you put in.

I gotta agree with chicken on this one. If it's an easy living then the game is easy for you. maybe you crush a certian level and you can live off it whatever. But that would be an easy way to make an easy living. or you struggle, play above limits or skill or play well but the limits are too small to make any sort of living. that could be a hard way. It seems that if you enjoy it and are good at it you will have an easy time and thats the only combo to make an easy living. Yeah you put work into it but like neveralways said "if you enjoy it it's easy" like with anything.

I agree with OP.

You just roll out of bed, press a few buttons, and the money are on your account.
Very easy.
But then you have the hard part, the psycological pressure, working through tilt, long periods with no income, loosing sleep, burning out and so on.

first the pro
1-you play when you feel like
2-you are your own boss
3-you become individually wealthy
4-it defenetley more fun
5-its give you a chance to win huge amount of money
the cons of poker
1-huge bankroll swings
2-chance of losing big chunk of life saving
3-need some skilles you can only born with
4-can you stand the heat of the poker tables
5-after you start playing poker you will never sleep as you was sleeping before
6- you always one click away from losing all your cash
7- and remember the losers r more than the winners in this game
(poker is the game that can crush the souls)

It's a decision you make when your play and finances deem you can make it. Whether you can handle it or not will make itself apparent during your first big down-swing/break-even stretch.

When I say whether your play deems it or not I mean an hourly winrate that you can live off comfortably that you have earned over several hundred thousand hands.

When I say whether your finances deem it or not I mean whether you can handle not having an income for a month or two if a really bad streak comes along and whether your in a position to quit if it's not just a streak. Have 6months worth of living expenses tied up in the bank or sign on to the dole or move back in with your parents.

I think its everyone's goal to try and make a supplemental living off of poker sites first before you could ever think of making an outright living off of them.

...and it won't be a significant return if you're just playing longshot freerolls

I've logged well over 15,000 hands over the last 4 months on one site alone on freerolls mainly and I'm realizing you do need to make a minimum deposit to get any value to live off of.

It is possible, but I believe most of us need to crawl before we walk... Internet poker is a completely different breed than poker at a table, in my opinion
