I am a chess player with an international FIDE rating of 2120. There is no equivalent term of 'tilt' in chess. Because, equivalent of bad beats don't exist in chess. There is something called oversight, where a player makes a mistake that isn't expected of his skill level. But, that is not bad beat.

Poker is far more emotionally demanding. Now, I am not stating with conviction that poker is tougher. High level poker is somewhat mechanical, like high level chess. In chess the best players rack their brains only during 5-6 positions in a 60 move game. Similarly, in poker the best players play on an average 20-30% of their hands and rack their brains in 3-4 hands. I am not too sure, as I am a beginner in poker.

In an any case, what is your opinion?

The degree of skill in chess is significantly higher. As you said, there is no tilt, and no luck in chess. Yes, moves get overlooked due to rushing or just not viewing the entire board, but if you make the better moves, you win. In poker, you can do everything perfectly and lose because of the randomness of card distribution. Poker may be more emotionally demanding because of the luck factor, but chess is by far the tougher game. A poker player will use math to calculate potential hands, and try to get a read on their opponent. A chess player must take each potential opponent move, and play it forward for several moves (as a child I was told 8 moves ahead). In short, your hand in poker is random, whereas, in chess, the game is entirely in your hands.

Chess is a more limited hame than poker. Every game starts with the same way with the pawns at the same position, so the first moves are some specific moves and then it gets mote interesting
In poker from the beginning the only thing you know is just two cards from the 52 and you just see the other players. What comes next, is a battle which is unique and you do not know for sure anything even woth aces.
So poker is something tougher than chess!

Depends on the type of poker we're talking about. Deep stack? Short stack? etc.

A beginner could never beat a grandmaster or even rarely any experienced player in a classical chess game. In poker even new players can catch a lucky streak and do well for a short while, even long enough for them to come to believe they are great at the game.

As you play more and more of both games you become familiar will the nuances and will understand how the luck factor really makes these games fall into different categories.

If people put in the time to train in poker like titled players do in chess the differences wouldn't be as clear. But most people in poker reach the point where they can win and stop trying to get better or get so frustrated with losing and bad beats they give up entirely.

Chess players make good poker players since they are used to being analytical and understand how their decisions affect the outcomes of each game.

Good luck to you!

When I played chess online, I was about a 1500 rated. Nothing to write home about. Chess is mostly all skill. Poker is probably 50% luck, 50% skill.

Chess, and a 100% skill game, professionals make plays already knowing what is going to happen, arm strategies that anticipate your game, and everything. Poker has skills, and techniques, but you have luck factor involved, that leaves Poker It is much more exciting to play than chess ... More can not say that poker is luckier than skill, who has this thought is wrong about poker ... Studies prove that poker is a game of skill

Analyzing more deeply I can say that poker is much more complicated than a game of chess, both are considered mental games, have strategy and mathematics involved and the desire to defeat the adversary. Chess is a game with 100% of information, both players are aware of all information and time - therefore they are directly conditioned to their aptitude for calculation. In poker, there are hidden cards and other variables at stake, such as bad luck, bluff and risk management

I know that most of promising Chess players in my close circles (including strongest chess player in finland) have made their money in poker. I have actually met more of my secondary school classmates at poker tournaments around the world than in elsewhere. I guess that major main problem with chess is to monetize your knowledge -> most players who have capabilities in Chess / Magic: The Gathering or any other such games were able to monetize their knowledge was poker.

At the end, Chess is not very forgivable for underdogs. It has no chance to get people who are clearly underdogs to play for real money.

Yes ... there is no random luck factor in chess. A great chess player will beat and bad chess player every time. Is it harder to become a great chess player or a great poker player I am not sure.

Is poker harder than chess?

No.

I, along with all but a small hand full of people in the world, would never be able to defeat Magnus Carlsen at chess.

However, I would give myself more than a starters chance, of beating Daniel Negreanu in a heads up poker game.

I believe is as hard as chess. But less tactical about way of playing. More about understading opponents way of playing.

Chess is definitely more challenging game. In poker, in most cases, the outcome depends on map and player skill. In chess it is necessary to calculate the situation several moves in front.

both are a very tough game to master. Chess being the tougher of the 2 I think. I think chess is closer to be solved then poker is or will be tho.

I think chess can not be compared with poker, chess almost does not need luck and in poker luck is the main thing

seems to me that, these both games are equal but each game has its potential and each game need their own tactics I think that they can not be compared

Chess and poker are completely different games. In poker, it is not possible to calculate the progress in advance. Because of the random dropping of cards. Here, perhaps it is possible to calculate mathematically the probability of obtaining combinations.

From my point of view these games of chess and poker have some similarities such as the analysis of their rivals, calculation of plays, strategy of game .... but they are not equal .... they have a great difference and is that in the Poker normally all your odds calculations are based on assumptions since you do not decide which card is the one that comes ... but in the chess all your calculations and movements of plays you decide ...!

Chess I think is a lot harder. With the number of scenarios to know, and which one at which time your opponent is using is a lot harder.
Good answers to the question here, really enjoyed the different views.
With poker even the most inexperienced player can pick up pocket AA's and flop a set, say against a great player.
