These are the requirements for the Poker Hall of Fame.
  • A gambler must have played poker against acknowledged top competition,
  • Played for high stakes,
  • Played consistently well, gained the respect of peers,
  • And stood the test of time.
  • Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results
After reading these requirements, who do you think is most deserving to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.

I will start it off. I'll vote for durrr, otherwise known as Tom Dwan.

p.s. the reason i picked durrrr is because hes a finalist this year. and he might not exactly stood the test of time completely but hes been playing poker for 6 years. he ewon 5.41 million off of tilt last year. hes played high stakes with the best in the world and won. hes earned the respect of his peers, whom call him the next phil ivey. by the way, i did read my post. i dont spam. and i think durrrr is a great pick. phil ivey would be my second, but durrrr right now is unstoppable.

Doyle Brunson addressed this on his blog recently. His take on durrr is the same as pokerchild69 -- he's a good player but hasn't nearly paid his dues yet.

Doyle Brunson said:
(1) Tom Dwan – It’s really an honor for Tom to be a nominee at the age of 22. Obviously, he can’t meet the criteria that are listed. I think he is a fine player and barring something unforeseen, his picture will be on the wall someday.

Doyle's picks seem to be Mike Sexton, Eric Seidel, and Barry Greenstein in roughly that order.

the reason doyle thinks that is because durrrr has taken a lot of money from him on high stakes poker ;)

LMAO, you think so? From what I recall Doyle didn't get into many big pots with Dwan on HSP. Not to mention that I'm pretty sure Doyle could buy and sell 100 Dwans. Or maybe 1000. ;)

And as we keep asking, have you read the requirements? Dwan clearly doesn't meet them all. Despite his success, he's still a rookie when it comes to HoF stature.

Im not gonna berate you for that... Think Daniel would be on most anyones list. Hes been playing with the big boys live for years now. Played the highest stakes and succeeded.. Clearly a good choice..

I like Daniel and certainly think he'll be HoF material one day, but I tend to agree with Doyle that the young phenoms, to including DN, Phil Ivey, and Durrr still have the best of their career ahead of them, not behind them. HoF status, no matter the game, is recognition of a career spanning years of contribution to the game. All of these young nominees are great, but they haven't achieved that long-term stature that a HoF entry demands. I'm sure they'll all have a good shot at it someday, but not today. My $0.02 anyway...

To me the term 'Hall of Fame' represents someone who has been around a game or profession for a number of years. Someone who has proven their abilities more than once!

Durr could get there, maybe (a solid contender for a Rookie of year, up and coming star type of thing)

Mike Sexton, as a player and broadcaster, yes.
Seidel as a player, yes (If only to let him live down the Rounders moment)
Greenstein - also a solid choice.

Daniel, in a few more years, definitely!

Mike Sexton would be my number one pick. He has all of the requirements, and he has done a lot for poker. He actually helped found the tournament of champions.

I'm with Doyle - any or all of these names would be excellent choices. I'd probably switch Greenstein and Seidel, actually. Seidel has more bracelets but Greenstein plays against the toughest competition every day and all the money from tournament winnings that he's donated to charity over the years have gone a long way to showing the public that not all poker players are self-obsessed and money hungry.

And if Dwan is still going in 20 years time I'm sure he'll be considered.

According to an article this morning on poker news, the HoF came to their senses and removed Durrr from this list of nominees
