Tell me something I havnt heard before but yet ppl still continues to play . Do you think it's because they are searching for fish or trying to improve their skills so they can be better than others or better at the game? How can ppl on the same table have same skill lvl. Those skills you mentioned everyone knows about them. What about individual skills? Your own skills? There's so much more room for improvment no matter how good you are. If Ledgends are slowly being replaced then they are getting their ass whooped by smarter , better skilled peeps. So no I don't agree that poker is just a game of luck and chance, Even though luck/chance is something good to have on your side, it's not the only factors that makes you win or loose. I consider luck/chance a bonus added to your skills.
Really looking at it this way it can be said that poker has become a game more luck than skill, given so many bad-beats. Even playing in a disciplined way there now that luck is not on our side.

70/30 split. More skill than luck. i would always prefer to be lucky though. i've seen people win coin flips and go runner runner to pick up enormous pots. skill on the other hand will leave you morally satisfied that you did the right thing but it doesn't take the sting out of leaving the poker room not having made any money.

Online, there is more than luck , I live a lot easier to play when you see and feel their opponents play.

For me poker is a game of skill, but it's nothing without a bit of luck. You can win one or two or more times by luck, but you won't win everytime without skill and experience.

its a couple of both, goes around the transition.

before the flop more luck, if you can see the cards, flop turn river, not for luckies.

i never win a tournament without luck. but always be in the bests position playing good without luck

I'd say 45% skill 55%Luck.You cant be bluffed off the pot when youre lucky but you sure can when you missed with youre skill.
You can win many tourneys when running hot but if not so you wont win many.It is by luck that our whole cards connects with the community.

There is no such thing as luck. There is only randomness --- so skill is obviously the answer.

Hi Everyone,
This is my first thread, I want to join this forum because I want to share my experiences, about poker or gambling. Ok, let me start regarding the title. Poker game that was considered as game of skill is no longer true. Why I can say this? just think about a match of two football teams. They are in the same skill, same level, and so what is the factor that determine the winner? LUCK, yes, luck, either by penalty, or wait until one of the teams got tired and have little focus. This example also valid to poker, when all the players on the table know how to read tells, betting pattern, playing position, know value of cards, then what is the point of having those skills, while others also knew it, it becomes what so called "common knowledge" in game theory. Nowadays, we can see lots of information bout poker everywhere, especially youtube. Books aren't that exclusive anymore, everybody can get "free" information. So nowadays poker almost can be called "gamble". You play poker and you can say that you "gamble". It is like blackjack when you cannot count cards anymore. I agree that there are still lots of fishes out there when you can suck out. But still, you "gamble" to find a fish, if there is any. so, now poker is just a game of luck and chance, you wait until you got the best cards, best flop, best turn, and best river. That is why poker legends are slowly being replaced by young poker players, they cant dominate this poker world anymore.

This is always an interesting topic of discussion. I have to argue that in your original post you used a bad example, because if both of you and are the exact same skill level and I become tired or sore you become the better player and therefor more likely to win, there is always luck in the game of poker however all that you can do try to make the most profitable desicions possible. There's a quote I read I regret I do not remember who said it but it was something along the lines of "Every time you play like you know what cards your opponent is holding, you make money." and "Every time your opponent plays as if he know your cards, you make money." I hope you read this and take away from it what I feel I've learned from it.

Top players go into the game with the same info and odds, so to speak, so luck has to be part of it. Skill is vital, of course, but all the skill in the world won't overcome bad hands, which experience and luck and help with.

I say 60% skill and 40% luck. Luck does play a big part in poker because even if you are a great poker player if the cards are not falling your way then you could still lose. But skill is still more important knowing how to bet, hold and when to fold.

Long term Vs Short Term

Long Term = Skill and Short Term = Luck.

You will be sucked out on and you will Suck out on people.

The more you play you will evolve into thinking more about your opponents hand and their range, than about what you have, unless it is the Nuts.

Luck or skill ?

After a streak of winnings, do you feel you got skillful or that you just got a beet more lucky?

Hard to say.
Only analysing the hands and moves. But one thing is right, on a upswing, luck is almost always there, along with the skill.

I think with skill and training you can control your game very good. But you have to keep in mind that there is always a part of the game, that you can't control, your luck. So try to improve your skills and hope for / believe in your luck.
