If your friend considers poker a gambling game, how he will treat the game on play chips? In this case,in his opinion, the game of chess can also be attributed to gambling if the game is on the money..

To me, your not betting or "Gambling" on what cards will fall, you are using skill of the game to out play your opponents. To me that's not gambling it's psychology. But then again I could be wrong. ;)

For me, the poker is business. I managed to earn some money playing poker and I don't think that poker is gambling. For gambling, you need to invest money, and I don't invest anything. I play freerolls and with my won amounts I play other tourneys. I am in plus.

I think poker is skill requiring gambling game. Its no matter how skillful you are, anyway you will need luck.

Yes, this is true. But in the long run skill will out do luck. If you sit at a table of Vet. Yes you can get lucky and win against them, but sit there long enough and you chips will be gone. Luck can only take you so far in poker. Million+ netting pros didn't get there just off luck. Poker isn't a coin flip game, you don't win some and lose some and break even, you need to know what you're doing at these tables/sites. Please don't take this as me harping on you, this is just my views on it.

Most of the luck to the pass depends on luck, but! It is necessary to think naturally of the mind ...

Yes, but I think poker is still not get rid of gambling game title... Its not a pure gambling like roulette, but in some ways it is a bit of gamble.

Every consistently winning poker player (and probably many of the ones who aren't winning) knows that poker involves something fundamentally different from fixed-odds casino games. I am personally mindful never to refer to my poker playing as "gambling", and I agree with you that the association has a part in harming poker's image. However, I think the big picture is a little more complicated than that...

There is a definitive element of chance involved therefore it's Grambling. Skill takes an important part of the game but it's not always a factor in each hand. Otherwise it will be always the most skilled players sitting at the final tables. As someone already said, over time skill will give better results than luck.

Poker is gambling because luck is a part of poker. No matter how "good" you play you can always have a bad beat and lose it all.. Especially in tournaments (which I play more) that you must win many hands to go far luck is a very big factor! How many times i've been knoked out with AA by some blufer who played all-in with J-9...

Not only luck is impotant.

Fedor Holz: 40% skill --- 60% luck
Good player: 30% skill --- 70% luck
Bad player: 10% skill --- 90% luck
All-In player: 0% skill --- 100% luck

My tuppence worth.

Investing in shares is not gambling. Put simply, buying a share or shares in a company means you own a share of that company. The company’s share price may fluctuate, depending on its current financial performance or what investors think may happen in the future but at the end of the day, you still own a share of the company. Successful investors buy shares in excellent companies that are undervalued.

Poker is definitely gambling. A loser gives money (or something else) to a winner, via a game of chance. That’s it.

I had this argument with my wife and also a few other friends/people. Short answer is no. Poker is not gambling. I say this because you are 100% in control of the amount you win or lose. It's not like roulette or craps. Those 2 games are luck related and the amount of control u have is only based on the money you bet.

For me it's not. For some other players it is.
stock markets is not gambling. It's more like well-ruled lottery or well-ruled chaos. The book "F.I.A.S.C.O.: The Inside Story of a Wall Street Trader" only confirms it. Sometimes it's pure cheating. The book “Liar’s Poker” is about similar stuff.
Luck varies from 10 to 90% from tourney to tourney.

If it weren't gambling, wouldn't the same players be at the final table of the world series year after year? It's definitely gambling. Get your cards in with the best chance to win and still lose. Gambling

I would say that poker HAS elements of gambling, but I mean hey I see plenty of fish 1-2 players who sit at tables and wait and only play made hands, that's not gambling. If I'm on a straight draw off the flop and it's a multiway pot with a good size bet and I call, I'm taking a gamble in that one instance. However if I flop quads and people are betting crazy at me, I'm not gambling, I'm just making bread.

poker is definitely gambling and involves luck and skill. The percentage of skill vs. luck really depends of format you play - in turbos, there is a lot of luck, but in deep cach game, there is little of luck, but definitely, all formats of poker involve luck.
