I always dream about going on a vacation and moving to a different country to play poker. I mean that I play poker for an income not for recreation. So I'd be interested in moving to a sunny destination where the Canadian dollar is worth many times more than the place so I can live cheaply. Thailand comes to mind except that it's illegal to gamble there. I know Tom Dwan goes to Macau but is it expensive to live there? I'm currently searching online for various places. Oh yeah. One more thing. Did you hear about that guy who couldn't cross the Canadian/USA border because of his drug related convictions for being busted with two grams of marijuana thirty years ago and was barred from entering the USA during the Super Bowl weekend? Well...I have exactly the same charges so that would have to be taken into consideration. How's Amsterdam? I'm gonna google Amsterdam. But anyways, for all the US players, would I be able to go to Colorado or Washington for like say a weekend tourney since pot use is legal there?

Hope you are already a very profitable player if you are contemplating a move like this to play poker.

Amsterdam? Hope you have a lot of money saved up. Sunny?? LOL - don't go anywhere in Europe.

mexico is probably the best idea for a cheap place to live. Lots of poker players live there.

Probably a better idea to say in canada and make sure you can be successful first.

I was born in Amsterdam. I'm sorry to say this, but I loathe that place. It has turned into an overrated, overpriced, overcrowded excuse for a town. Don't waste your money on it. Europe has far better to offer.

If you enjoy sunshine, my guess would be that life in southern Europe is quite affordable at the moment. Maybe you should give it a try. I heard Malta is popular among poker players, also for its mild tax climate. And you could have your own growth shop in the back garden ;)

However, the more down-to-earth advice of dakota-xx might very well be best. And if you decide to move, plan ahead carefully to avoid disappointments.

By the way, it never seizes to amaze me how much effort the US authorities put into persecution of those in possession of a... plant!

I live in brazil and I recommend here if you are looking for a sunny place and things here are cheap if you are going to use canadian dollars. The online poker here is legal (at least is not illegal :)..) and some places in big cities offers live poker too (SP, RJ..). But, if you are only going to play online, I would say to live in a more safe city, like Florianopolis (where I live) or in some city of northeast.

Macau may be many things, but I don't think cheap is among them...

The US/Canadian border is not nearly so friendly post 911 in either direction. I've had my share of issues coming from US to Canada and I have 0 criminal record... and stacks of documentation on who I am and what I do!

Other places not mentioned that poker players go for cheap living include Cambodia and The Philippines.
