I play in a home cash game every couple of week with pretty much the same 8 guys. may be a new guy once in awhile also. we play dealers choice so we play a types of game from hold'em to inbetween, 2 card guts and so on. Me i like to just stick to hold'em because the other games require no skill what so ever. Any way my question is this we all ways run out of chips and use some cash. some guys will try to take it off the table and pocket it. I always say no all money stays on the table till you cash out. We play at a friends house and some guys get mad when i say it. but i just feel its the right way to play.

I think a "house rule" like that is a good idea.
Otherwise things can get out of hand.

I agree.
If the cash/chips is on the table than it should stay on the table unless the game is over or that person is leaving. Tell them its no different than them pocketing chips. No money/chips should be removed from the table during play at all, unless for reason like chip changing, money exchanging, etc and in the end, the same value should be on the table afterwards.

If you have that problem, then either get more chips to play with or change the value of each chip so you dont run out and have to use cash.

Solution: Buy more chips. As the poker craze dies down, I'm seeing more sets go on sale at places like Target, etc.

Also, what you are describing is NOT just a "house rule". It is what the poker world calls "going south". Taking chips or cash off the table during a cash game is a HUGE no-no. Check out this episode of "High Stakes Poker" for an incident of it on TV and more explanation (accusation starts around the 7:00 mark):

It's best to set this rule before any money comes out of pocket so people know what they're getting into. Sure it should be the standard rule for all poker games, but home games don't always have experienced poker players so they might not know any better.

This. You can either cash out everything (and leave for the night) or it all has to stay on the table. If it gets to be too deep to be comfortable, play with a cap (like only up to 100 BBs or w/e can be bet each hand). Taking chips (or cash as chips) off the table is not good etiquette, no matter how you spell the word. I think it's fine to play with cash on the table, but it needs to be understood that the cash is the same as chips once they're on the table. You can't pocket it until the end of the night.

house rules should always be made and followed, especially if its with a regular group...but a few drinks and there's always one that just doesn't care

Epic argument, IMO :D

Going south is normally frowned upon, but if it's a home game then house rules normally apply and if it ain't your game, there's probably not a lot you can do about it.

When you're playing in a home game with friends, you should always let them have the chance to at least win their money back. If someone just keeps taking money off the table, they're gonna piss people off and break the game up earlier because the losers know they can't get their money back. Don't let them do that!
