For the past couple of weeks i've been in what i call a poker depression. I hate it...i can't win a hand...let alone a tourney....i keep trying..because playing poker is what i want to do... However, i could say that this is just bad luck...its not. I keep sabotageing my poker hands with things i would never do normally. You know what i mean...there are hands you would never play in competition or tournement...

I've been thinking about taking a month off and just do housework...or watch tv.. something other than holdem. Possibly read a self help book or two...
Depression is a bitch...but throwing a game on purpose...wow .........Have a nice day.

Xman is rite on the button>take 4 or 5 days off and dont play at all,and you will see that when you start to play again things will be better. I believe the term for it is ALL POKERED OUT, i read it in a book. once in a while ill just take a few days off and not play at all and what a difference, when i start playing i am refreshed again and seem to play better, so give it a try. good luck. P.S. in the last 2 weeks ive only played 5 times and i got 3rd in todays $ 5.00 buy-in, so take a little rest from poker and see what happens.:elefant:

I understand where you are coming from.

I have been down as much as $20 at 25/50 tables. Free $50 but it still hurts.

I keep seeing bad hands and marginal hands I fold win over and over for other people.

I see Flushes and Straights everywhere except my hands.

I get top pair only to be beat on the river by 2 pair by someone playing bottom pair all the way to the river.

Ax never pair As for me. And everyone else get's there As.

It just drives me crazy.

Been a while since I vented like this. Not that the crap isn't happening. It still is. It always is. But, it get's old complaining about every bad beat I suffer.

Plus it would take away from actually making the other posts which help me more.

Like ok forget I got a bad beat. This is a hand I won, how could I have played it better.

Anyway. That is just part of poker. Suffering seems to be most good players right of passage.

It never gets easier to lose. You just come to an understanding. And move on to the next hand.

DOOOOOO WHAT!!!!!!!! I have been on the worst run of my life lately but oh my goodness Grum! Myself though not entirely sure what is going on took several days off, logged into a site I had a free 10 deal I had ground upto about 50 b4 my break. Sat down for 1 1/2 hours and busted out. I only made one mistake and that was not letting go of big slick which only cost me about 6 bucks. PL50 btw the rest of the hands I got my money in with the best hand but got outdrawn 2 open ended straights fell against me and 1 BS 2 pair. Can't complain about my starting hands some of the best I remember seeing but NOTHING held up when I needed it to. So was gonna take a run at an enormous deposit bonus starting tonight but that is on hold for a bit till I figure out what the hell I am doing wrong!

I get this - play too much poker and it all starts going wrong. Bad habits creep in, or I start to lose my discipline and make stupid calls. If I take a week or so off with no poker at all I usually come back playing really well.

Hey Ripley,
We all know exactly where your coming from. I have built in to my life at least 2 nights a week where I have to be somewhere else or doing something else. I also try to take a 4 day break, once a month.

You Write - I absolutely know when i've been beat..yet i call an all in - Depression is a bitch...but throwing a game on purpose...wow

Sounds like aswell as being pokered out you may be beating yourself up over something else in your life. Don't want to go into phsyco babble as told to me by a friend that counsels people with gambling and alcohol problems (Idiot reckons I have the makings of being one of his best customers,LOL) but basically the gist is that you get into a bit of a funk in your day to day life and lose money to pay some sort of penance.

Anyway not saying you are in some sort of life crisis situation just that it doesn't hurt to step away from the computer, clear your head and not go back until your mind is uncluttered and all you are thinking about is your "A game"

Oh yeah and a weekend of getting completely Rat Arsed Drunk cannot possibly hurt either.

Time off is a good idea. Maybe even play a different game for a few days. Everyone needs a break now and then, even from Poker.:top:

Take 10 bucks to the penny tables, get a bottle of hooch and piss every cent away playing like a complete ass while you get piss faced drunk. If you don't get so hammered that you pass out with your mouse in one hand and a bottle in your other, wait until the next evening and repeat.

This happened to me too lately , i went playin on CD Poker , i was used to play 1/2 $ limit table , but as i wanted to clear sign up bonus fast , i went to play 2/4 limit . What a bad decision . I recieved a few bad beats , and was down 80 $ very quick . Since i do not experience such "big" losses in a short time , i went tilt , tried to win it all back , even went to 3/6 table and tried there , well after all i lost about 500 $ there playing totally tilt cuz i just couldnt handle the higher up and downs . I quit playin at Cd and took a few days break of poker , was mad at myself that i lost all my discipline i usually have .

I decided to keep playing at 1/2 $ cuz i can handle the downs much better there not going tilt .

A few days later i started playing at Golden Palace Poker , made 250 $ profit at cash game and got 3rd at the first deposit freeroll wich gives me another 330 $ .

So i d say , im back where i was and it was of course because of the break i took and the decision to keep playing "my stakes" .

End of story ~

Oh boy,

I just read my last post to this thread and got no inspiration from it. Been doing really bad this week. Both in a poker and in business. It all started with losing 6 straight tournies out of the money on Monday. I decided I better take a day off. Came back wednesday and placed in the money for all of $1 in on tourney and then proceeded to lose 2 more that day out of the money. It has been down hill from there. Losing several more tourney out of the money including one on the bubble Thurdays. 2 1/2 hours shot.

The bad thing is only one of hands out of the probably 15 touries I play, I lost count somewhere, was to better hand preflop.

This by far has been one of the worst weeks I have had. I haven't played a ring table at all this week for fear I would just lose there.

I am really not feeling very good at all about poker. I can only hope this funk I am in is going to pass soon. I was on target to increase my winnings by about 30% over last month. Now I might actually not even match last months winnings.

What do you all do when you have this kind of luck?

I posted a thread a while back it was called ' I Feel like quitting poker '

I had run up against so many brick walls and idiots calling all-in with 3-4 os, that i was getting very disallsuioned. And to be honest i was totally up from walking away from playing the game ,and to try and stick to running the games

I took a weeks holidays, now it just wasnt poker, it was my businesses as well. But since then ive taked things in perspective, you win most of the time, but you lose a lot as well. You need CLARITY of thought, if you win 60% of the time you will lose 40%, still a great return.

Poker is a game of both luck and skill, good hands and bad hands, hands that gave you the miricial card on the river, and that gave you a bad beat.

We, as people tend to remember and dwell on the bad things ang tend to forget very quickly the good things. Rember the time your QQ took down AA. Dont think so............ Rember the time YOUR AA was beaten by QQ (I still have nightmares)

BTW .. If ye cant tell, im on my 6th pint of the black stuff

Pass me that black stuff. I just went through 24 hours of bad cards, bad decisions, and crappy play. Only saving grace was playing in a 6-handed game with some guy who would go all in every other hand. I called with A-9 just for the heck of it. He had A-higher (don't remember what it was) and the only card to match flop, turn, or river was my 9. Shoulda heard him bad-mouthing me. lol
