When a poker player says they've gone broke, what does this mean?

Does this mean they've lost their bankroll and they need to start the grind again?

Or does it mean they can't afford their mortgage next month?
I feel poker definition of "going broke" is different to the real world definition.

Also, when the pro's do go "broke" , do they just work a normal job till they get enough to build a bankroll and hit the felt again?
Brunson himself said he;s been "broke" over 20 times, so how did he build his Bankroll back up? Obviously he probably can get royalties and book sales etc and this money woudl go to bankroll, but pro's who dont have royalties would need to just get a normal job at this point ?

Just food for thought, I don't know too much about this though.

Haha my point exactly. That being said I am not sure what most poker players do when they hit broke since I have yet to fully commit to solely playing poker. Although I plan to do it once I have saved up enough of a bankroll I can only imagine that when a poker player goes broke, they scurry back to any part time work they able to find and build up from there again. That's what I would do anyway.

Never gamble what you cant afford to lose. Lack of discipline will cost dearly :)

I think they tend to get somebody to stake them or loan them once they go broke..

Lost their bankroll would be my guess. Can't imagine someone losing all financial assets on poker.

Going Broke can be a very hard thing for new players, and after getting hooked on the action, but losing, may do almost anything to get the money to play. I was there 13 years ago. And I know I was in a very large group of people who play poker. Now days, with the advice I've recieved here, I have not had to pawn any of my tools to play. Matter of fact, I've been playing on my bank roll our a year. I hope there is no more going broke.

if being broke is that they lost most or all of the bankroll, where if he played in tournaments high inputs will have to play in smaller inflows of money. to recover. At that level of players they make strong bets. For Isildur and Gus Hansen have broken several times but recovered again .. big and crazy players. lol

Same both as sup3rhOt, freerolls for me LOL. Both for a lot of the pros they get staked. Be surprised how many of the well known players are heavy in make up etc. 2nd one ^^
