Anyone been on a poker cruise? I have seen it online and done a small bit of research and it looks like a lot of fun. Also sounds like there will be a lot of people on-board the boat that probably belong in the water below, if you catch my drift.

Essentially a nice Caribbean cruise while playing poker every day sounds like a lot of fun and myself and a mate are interested in going. Can anyone offer up some insight? The biggest problem for me would actually be travelling to the location of departure.

I know a few members may have been on such a cruise, we'll have to wait and see if any find this thread and respond.

The CardPlayer cruises do look awfully inviting. I'd have to have a nice bankroll to join one of them though as it looks like they do get some big games. With Linda Johnson's involvement I'd bet that the CP ones are very friendly and well run.

I always thought about it because I love to cruise, but they are so inflated in price I wonder if it is worth it.

Ok guys thank you, and from what I saw there are week long cruises from as little as $100 a day which is literally **** all. Could make that back in a night playing 1/2

Don't forget port fees and taxes. Still a little pricey for me since most of the cruises we take are about $50 a night. Double our reg price just to play poker - when you can play on any ship anyways - AND against bad players instead of good players. BUT as a learning experience it would be fun I guess, Im sure you will pick up a ton of good tips and what not, and maybe even meet some pro players, and I think the tourneys are good too.

My take is, I cruise a lot already and typically I have no problem getting the cruise money back as well as half the drink bill just by playing the casino moaps that are playing poker because they just want to try it or think they are good. I have rarely come across a cruise where they was more than one other decent poker player - and then you both spot each other and just leave each other alone and pick off the scrubs.

If you go have fun! Cruises ROCK! Don't listen to the nay-sayers that hate them for whatever reason. It wont be the most glamorous trip you have ever taken, and for the most part the public areas are germ infested craziness, but how is that unlike any poker room - its not. Just wash your hands A LOT and don't touch your eyes or nose without clean hands and you will be fine.

Oh and forgot to add, you will have to take someone with you or find someone to share a room, because ALL cruises are booked on double occupancy - meaning to get a ticket you must purchase two!

Wow this is a great response, thanks a lot! I have never been on a cruise, and I forgot that in America the price on stuff doesn't have Tax already included. In the UK it's nice and simple, no tax, what you see is what you pay.

More importantly though, I didn't realise there were cruises that weren't poker cruises BUT had poker rooms onboard? This seems to be a MUCH better idea. More fish, cheaper price? This would certainly be something I'd be interested in doing. Might even be something that goes from closer to the UK than Florida.

Well just to clarify there are not poker rooms per say, just a table or two in the casinos. AND YES the players are typically terrible. Some ships however have the electronic tables (no dealers) which I am not a fan of but it does make the game go quicker and no mistakes.

BUT just in case, if you are taking a normal cruise, I would call and ask if that particular ship has poker, because even though I haven't found one yet, there may be a ship out there that does not.

Yeah it would definitely be something I'd quadruple check before booking. Electronic dealers? I think I saw that in canada once but the table wasn't running. You get a screen so it's like online but everyone is sitting at the same table lol!

Cardplayer cruises have a separate poker room I believe.

Yeah and you need to make sure you book through them otherwise you're not allowed in the cardroom.

You get a screen that shows your hole cards and gives you betting options. The community cards are shown on a big screen table in the middle.

I recommend a regular cruise and then play some. If you really want to play live poker - go to a casino with live dealers. The cruise ship poker is something to kill time with while your spouse is on the Lido deck.

The caliber of players ran the spectrum when I was there - everything from first time fish to seriously good players.

Your mileage (or cruise miles) may vary.

One advantage to the poker cruise over a regular cruise is that there are a Lot more games to play. On a regular cruise, there are times that you can't even get a single table together.
