Hey, so I will be playing live soon and I'm going to get some chips to practice tricks...dont want to sit at the table and look like a tool, so I would like to give the impression I know what I'm doing...lol....but what would be the best chips to get?..does it matter?...I would rather get ones that are like the ones used live today in the casinos and not some cheap 'poker set' type chip that is unrealistic....I've got a budget of about £10-$16.....thanks

How's your card shuffle? I hate shuffling and dealing, can't do any standard riffles at all.

So you just want enough chips to practice chip handling? If so, I'd suggest just going to the casino and buying 10 or 15 chips. Take em home and practice and then you can take them back and play with them later.

Here's what may be the "easiest" and only requires 3 or 4 chips

Yeah just enough to do chip handling, learn a few tricks and get a feel for them....good idea about getting them from the casino, didn't know you could do that (never been in a casino sober or with any knowledge before)....thanks

I'd go with the standard shuffle and you really don't need much more than that. Maybe the thumb flip or the three-chip twirl. Much more than that and yeah, you'll end up looking like a douche.

A much more practical (and impressive, to those in the know) skill to master is being able to cut a stack into lots of five/four/whatever with speed and accuracy.

YouTube any of the above for how-to videos, there's tons of them.

Thanks oz.......should I get a sheet of felt to get a good grip with the chips, or does that not really matter?

Doesn't really matter. I'm sitting here at work shuffling a stack of chips on my desk.

I can almost never sit at my computer desk anymore without shuffling even when I'm just browsing the web.

The question is can you do the tricks with "either" hand? Keep practicing.

As WV says it's not a huge issue. The closest household item you'll find to a poker table surface is actually a mouse mat though, if you want to use something.

The only real trick that is worthwhile is making your chips mate and produce offspring, thereby increasing the size of the chip family...

Anything else is annoying to me at the table...

A padded mousepad is a good piece of "table" to practice on. I like putting a stack of chips on it... and taking the top chip off, dropping it vertically onto the pad "felt" and trying to get it to bounce back onto the top of the stack... its fun.
