Hi,

I'm new so this is my first post. I'm an experienced gambler with craps & mostly the horses. I find poker interesting on numerous levels. I've never played but have accompanied my friends to an eclectic array of casinos around the country.

One of, perhaps the greatest obstacles for me is BOREDOM!! I can't seem to fathom the fact that the great majority of hands I won't be playing. Craps is relatively fast moving & horse racing in this simulcast era has a race going on somewhere in the country every few minutes.

So, perhaps this game isn't for someone like me with a short attention span or I'm missing a significant component of what poker truly is all about. Any actionable insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Be Well,
fmhealth

Are you playing NLHE? Have you tried Omaha? I recently tried it in a tournament and after a couple of hours of practice with play money, I was in the money in a tournament. You might just try a different game and see if you like it better. Good luck at the tables.

If you do not like a long game - try Spin & GO or PowerUP. But for starters it will be useful to learn the rules of Texas Hold'em.

This is the ongoing issue for many people especially if you are playing in a live game and playing for many hours. I have brought magazines to the poker room, look at the internet on iphone occasionally. But mostly try to pay attention to what is going on and who is doing what, just you need to pace, stand, walk around and ensure that you are not bored

If you're looking to play poker but have a short attention span, I would recommend online poker as opposed to live, the play is quicker and there are several ways to increase the speed of play.

If it's the length of the game that's an issue, cash games or turbo tournaments will be better for you. Cash games end when you want, and turbo tournaments progress to higher blinds and therefore finish quicker.

If it's the time between hands that's the issue, try ZOOM/snap tournaments or cash games, as soon as you fold you're moved to a new table. I could also advise playing 6-max, with less players at the table the play *should* go quicker

There are many variants of poker that are faster (spin and go, power up, etc), also online you can play multiple tables, now if you play life it will be difficult because the game moves slower in general.

PS- What is the usual rake in poker? As a horse player it's in the vicinity of 18-23%. Which obviously is excessive & makes seeing the light of profitability a remote outcome.

I see your point of view. My opinion is the same truthfully that's why I have been playing a lot of tournaments since there is less chance to loose more money. But making a habitual folding folding pattern could go a long way plus the hands chosen to play with yield better return instead of playing almost all the hands and not folding

It seems to me that poker is a game only for very patient people with an analytical mindset
