The Poker Boom

I think it will last between the 3 & 5 years,maybe the wsop main event will still be popular, but I think we will see a decline in online poker & small live tourneys (e.g in pubs & clubs) very rapidly.

This is a difficult one - yes, the Main Event field shrunk last year but it was pretty much solely due to the online rooms not being able to run satellites for US players.

I ticked "go on forever" because I think that even though a lot of people who've gotten into poker as the "next big thing" will drop out when it stops being fashionable (and many have already started), there's a lot of people who'll have picked it up for life. So we may not have Main Event fields over 8000 forever, but I doubt they'll ever go back to pre-2003/4 levels either.

My opinion seems to be similar to OzExorcist's. I feel that the bigger the tournament prize pools get, the more people that are going to be drawn to the game, and willing to put of those big buy-ins.

I checked 5 yrs. I agree more with 123bird. I think so many people who have gotten into the game are probably between 18-25 yrs. old. Basically college age. I'm 33 and, while there are probably alot of people who will be a lifer, I also know that when people are finished "sowing their wild oats" settle down and (dare I say it?) get married or have kids, they tend to want more stability in life. With so many donks playing online right now they're either gonna quit or get better and usually people who play lotto poker are going to be too lazy to actually put in the time to get better. Just my opinion.

The actual "Boom" is over. But Poker is still growing just at a much slower rate than during the poker boom.

as long as earths population is growing, the number of poker players will increase.

Even if the boom is no longer exploding, its still increasing slowly.

I'd say either go on forever, or it's already over, depending on your definition of the boom. It's still plenty popular and still plenty of fish out there in the sea, but I've heard there were TONS more 5 or so years ago. But it's not going anywhere any time soon. It's on ESPN, people enjoy watching it, and it's got the allure of people thinking "it's not that hard". Whereas not many people think they can hit a baseball coming at them at 90+ MPH 400+ feet there are plenty of people who think they can make a call or bluff or fold against anyone in the world at poker. As long as there are this many people who think they are good at poker, or think "it can't be that hard", and as long as variance still exists and bad play pays off once in a while, there are a whole lot of poker players out there that aren't going away any time soon.

i agrre the booms over but it will still grow and attract younger people in as they get older...i hope poker never dies..it won't

I voted "it's already over" because by the time I jump on a bandwagon, its already too late...
