I'd say either go on forever, or it's already over, depending on your definition of the boom. It's still plenty popular and still plenty of fish out there in the sea, but I've heard there were TONS more 5 or so years ago. But it's not going anywhere any time soon. It's on ESPN, people enjoy watching it, and it's got the allure of people thinking "it's not that hard". Whereas not many people think they can hit a baseball coming at them at 90+ MPH 400+ feet there are plenty of people who think they can make a call or
bluff or fold against anyone in the world at poker. As long as there are this many people who think they are good at poker, or think "it can't be that hard", and as long as variance still exists and bad play pays off once in a while, there are a whole lot of poker players out there that aren't going away any time soon.
