How many of you find it hard to sleep after playing poker before bed? Every time my heart rate is up and adrenaline is flowing mad crazy. I'm usually lying down on my bed with my lab top listening to music, playing poker, and watching videos on youtube. I noticed when i stop an hour or so before bed everything is alright. Do you experience the same thing when you play shortly before bed time? How do you handle it? I usually listen to some house music. What would you recommend?

Nah not here.

It is more likely the fact that you are listening to house music. I seem to remember a study that if all other variables are kept constant, the BPM in music can affect cerebral stimulation (or something like that) and heart rate. Perhaps you should put on chill out tunes.

Nah not here.

Perhaps it is the type of music you are listening to?

I doubt it, go to youtube and search Bohemian Sunset - Jazzanova. I usually listen to chilled out beats like that which i find very soothing. I used to listen to death metal before bed and it didnt effect me much unless i went on a full on head bang session.

Maybe its just me.but as of late being off work all these days due to the holidays I've been spending most of my days here at the computer playing poker. So by the end of the day I'm ready to go to bed even when my last hand is 5 min pryor to that time. I say come on work!

I don't think it is poker keeping you up. I had a situation the other night where I played a session and had 3x my money when I was ready to go to bed. Even tho it was an exciting session with some great hands I had no issue going to sleep within 15 minutes. I assume we all could be different when it comes to going to sleep, but I am not sure it is the poker keeping you up.

Like you, I can't finish a poker game then crawl into bed and immediately fall asleep. That's because by focusing (presumably) on your poker game, your brain and the rest of your body is pretty wired (on adrenaline). It needs some down time before you can sleep. Listening to music or watching television can help you unwind - unless you're listening to violent metal music or watching an intense move or sporting event.

Yea I also find it tough to sleep after poker but its mainly because my brain is still and thinking mode.. takes me a bit to stop thinking about hadns and situations that occurred.. Especially after im not playing its the flood gates open to let all the previous hands come back into mind and think about how i played them.. Good for playing better in the future but bad for sleeping haha

I'm thinking it is the same as a night of gambling anywhere.I also listen to very high bpm music when playing(house, metal, thrash.what ever mood i'm in) Your adrenaline is running through you like a freight train.Years of the racetrack circuits have taught me that.Believe it or not a few pieces of chocolate do the trick for me.I can play poker in bed then eat a few pieces like a sleeping pill.:bird:

A stiff drink will do it for me after playing. I never drink while playing just after. It does calm me after a tough game.

I find it is always good to turn the computer off at least one hour before going to bed. Allows the brain to disconnect.
