I know that jared bleznick has been accused of being a cheater, but he does have a point.

"Honestly, I don't like a lot of the people that are involved in poker...you know, poker is a... it's a very selfish game and I would say a lot of the people I don't really get along great with because everyone's just about themselves... but for the most part, I like a lot about the game."

Every single time I play live poker there is a fight.
Even in home games.

No matter what you are playing there a going to be people that are really selfish, conceited, annoying, and just overall bad people. Whenever there is competition we see people get upset when they lose, especially if there is money involved. It is our job as poker players to make sure the games are enjoyable to play, by keeping the games fun and entertaining despite people losing. This is what allows our business to flourish. When people make statements like "Poker is a selfish game" or "It attracts the worst type of people" it attaches a stigma to the game and people will be less likely to play. This will ruin the poker environment and therefore, ruin the ecosystem that makes the game fun and profitable. Lets put our best efforts forth to remove these mindsets and make poker great again.

There are a small percentage of people in the game that make it hard to introduce and retain new people to the game. Just find a different game to play in if you can not avoid them or better yet, play online. You may go to jail if mute someone's chat in live poker but perfectly legal online.

There are no more or less crap people in poker than any other random place it is just different for you because normally you choose to associate with like minded people. If you are a good person you choose good people to associate with but with any sport or game you don't get to choose. If you go down to the local shuffleboard game at the old folks home I am sue you are going to find a similar percentage of jerks to good people. It is not a poker problem.

I have found that about 90% of the people I have played poker against on line are really nice people. There is always a jerk or 2 hanging around. That being said, even good people get frustrated when things don't go their way and may say something or act differently than they would normally because there is $$$ on the line. I'm guilty of that myself.

Not all people are bad, but that's poker, a "Fight", but healthy for us and our brain is a competition where everyone wants to win. As in any sport.

Welcome to the human race! If you haven't noticed most people in general are all about them self. Why would poker be any different? Its not the game, but who you surround yourself with when you play the game.

Life itself attracts the worse in people. All walks of life and adding money to the mix in anything draws it out.

The problem is we let the guy with the biggest mouth run the dynamics a lot of the time because most of just want to play. Sometimes the asshat is a real spewtard and people put up with it because of that fact or he is tilting another player at the table into making bad play.
Its a great place to sort out any issues you may have with a set personality type. Lets face it we run into certain types over and over and you can practice dealing with them in different ways, till you find something that works.

I agree, there's always going to be people who cheats or plays unfairly at any game. We've seen a large amount of athletes from many kinds of sports who used drugs to improve their game.

But they are a small porcentege of people and their actions should not affect the way everyone think about the rest of the players.

I played poker a lot at home with friends and family (there was strangers some times), and we never had a fight about money or anything. For me it all comes out to education, trusting the people your playing with and knowing its just a game even tho theres money in between.

In resume, some people cheats? sure, they're always going to be cheaters. Does that makes us all cheaters? No.

There are some interesting characters at my local casino, that's for sure, but I doubt poker is what attracted them there.

I can think of a few professional poker players who epitomize the type of person he is talking about, but the majority are out there trying to get better and keep the game fun for recreational players.

In a zero-sum game there is going to be cut-throat action at times, if you go in expecting to see some of this, you usually won't be let down.

There are fun-friendly low stakes games all over the place so it isn't like you are forced to play only in these environments.

Some people that play poker are bad/worst ,they 're haters against others ,100%selfish , they try to collude /cheat , the're doing everything illegal for profit , but on the other hand many , and I truely believe this , are good, they are playing not only for the money but for the game as well , they 're having fun with others , they know how to behave when they lose , ofcourse they want to win but not using all means ( cheating , etc ) , they help some other players/share their knowledge like they do on this forum many .So I think '' the worst type of people '' are not the majority in the poker community , that's enough for me .

Lately in all aspects of life it seems like a minority of loud assholes is more capable of shaping people's perceptions of whatever that minority is associated with than the (usually) vast majority of perfectly decent human beings that make up the actual community. It's kind of depressing... :(

In poker, as in life a lot of different people - good and shitty. And as in life, it seems to me, there are different ways of how to protect themselves from the "dialogue" with assholes. Change a table, use the total ignor - so infuriates these baddies, lol. The main thing is not to get involved in stupid squabbles and play for fun and profit.

Completely agree with OP. I have lots of friends who are poker players but I find the majority of poker players to be types of people I would never associate with away from the tables.

Online I came across many haters, sadly. On this topic -> poll and question: https://www.cardschat.com/forum/gen...lk-where-your-limit-308469/?referrerid=148986

That being said, I don't think poker attracts more 'bad" people. Of course where there is money to be made, there will be cheaters. But that has nothing to do with poker itself. That's just the money-devil.

I never played big live tournaments, but I watched most of the seasons of the EPT's and I must say: 95% of the players there seem to be 'good' and friendly people. I also think that if you have a bad character and bad temperament, chances are big you're gonna make more mistakes by f.ex. tilting. Tilters will ever win in the long run, IMO.

I think this can be true in all walks of life, ignorance and bad attitude also portrays itself with the obscurity of online play, a good percentage would not say boo in live action, such is the character of bullies and bigots
