Yes, I've been to WSOP Academy and found it worthwhile. It's a fun learning experience with the pros lecturing to you and doing hand demos all day, with tournaments taking place at night. I also met some interesting folks there.

The online training sites are much less expensive, though, with a deeper and wider volume of information. I've been happy with CardRunners, and there are a bunch StoxPoker members here too.

Ive never paid for lessons, but I have read a ton of information for free, subscribed to magazines and played many hours. Can anyone provide stats proving that these camps/lessons improved their win/place ratio ?

I also have a friend who went to an acadamy in Las Vegas..winning the trip...and he said he would have paid full price for the trip, it was so well worth it.
Knowledge is power...the more you know the better you become!
If I ever get the chance to go to any type of acadamy I will jump at the chance.:D

lol u mite want re-think ,

sitting down at cash-game , even if u are up at the end of the night .
if u look back over your hands that u lost . asking yourself if i would have ?
using all your poker knowledge . coming up with a different outcome is lesson
that u have learn by investing money into a pot.

it nesascrely doesn't mean some-one else has to teach you.

Do you think you can learn anything from one of the online courses. I only ask because with forums like this one and all the great books out there why should I pay to take a online course. I can understand what the live course would bring but not the online.

I am asking about the training in hopes finding the next step up. I do fairly well when I play in cash games or tourneys in Vegas, but i always seem to make one big mistake in online tourneys. I cannot tell you how many times I have finished on or near the button. I've read the books.
I have considered that the major difference in on line and live for me is the size of the buy in. I tend to play in the $10 to $50 buyin tourneys on line (mostly the lower end of that) and I play $100 plus tourneys in Vegas. ( a few cheaper like the PM at Planet Hollywood or the AM at Flamingo). Could the quality of play be a factor. I've heard it said that it is better to play against good players who will know what you are doing as opposed to players who stay with riduculous hads, thus creatin the oppurtunmity for those horrid beats we all hate. Plus, as we all know, when people stay in in droves, pot odds go crazy, thus making staying in the way to go.

Yes. One of the main benefits of watching training videos online is being able to both see and hear the thought processes of successful players as they play. It's not just theory, you see it in practice. Paying enough attention and actively learning about the strategy behind what's going on in different players' heads while they're playing is gold.
