You like to play poker, it is a vice or it is an opportunity to earn some money and or you think that it is also an opportunity to lose money.

Depends on your skills, bankroll management, discipline and will to study.

Lack of discipline/BM leads to going broke often after some decent scores... or playing under the influence (especially alcohol or cocaine, pot is fine IMO, helps tilt lol).

With no will to study and upgrade youll be mediocre, break even or very small EV+... which leads to great stress if you feel pressure to advance

And if you are not skilled and just not that smart, not much to do really

Depends on what you want to get from it. If you take it seriously then it can be an opportunity but if you do not respect the game it can quickly become an expensive vice.

In fact i think poker is a game that has potential to be your lifestyle , you only have to dedicate your energy and time to it, studying and practicing, however, if you have inate talent, its way more easier

Poker can be either a vice or a opportunity depends on the personality of each person, people who has a addictive personality tend to have more problems than those who does not

It's a little bit of everything that you describe. It is a vice, as it includes the opportunity to make some money and therefore people get hooked on it. It's also a chance to lose some money, especially when you do lose, and try to chase your losses by trying to win again...... and simply losing more money as you are focussed on trying to regain your losses rather than trying to play your best poker.

Whatever...as the saying goes.... when the fun stops, STOP.

Don't chase your losses but play each game as an opportunity to play your best poker and enjoy yourself.

Any form of gambling can be considered a vice. The difference is with NL I don't consider it gambling. I consider it a game of making the right reads and decisions to make some money over time. Remember gambling is betting against the house, in poker you only pay the rake or the entry fee. Its a great opportunity to make extra money but there will always be variables where you have losing sessions. Anyone saying the win all the time is full of it.;)

I agree with it becoming a vice and how the gambling mentality to try to make up on your losses by playing more can get the best of everyone. Poker is about forgetting the games you lost, never changing a strategy or play style that works and stay even keeled. If you can do those things and stay mentally tough losing money is nothing more then part of the game. Its not how you do that day, that week or that month. Its how you do over the long term. If I wasn't a winning player I would drop it like it's hot. Best of luck on the felts BentleyBoy!:)

Poker for me is just entertainment, a good time. And if we win - great.

Could be both. Some people get too caught up in gambling and it becomes a problem. If you have good self control it can be very profitable.

Just good one point - for thinking deep..
Playin` the game - was always. 100 years ago, 10,000 years ago & so on..
And still that will be a chance to change your life (mean - to grab huge funds) - peoples will be want to play !
On & on & on..

HAMC81- said it perfectly.

Its an opportunity, but if you don't study or try to improve by being dedicated and controlled then it will turn into frustration and will not be a vice anymore.
