In my first post on this subject i got some ridiculous replies. So i am going to lay it all out in this post so hopefully you will understand, though i know many of you will not no matter what. First of all the first post had to do with live poker not online poker, so lets rule online poker out of this scenario. I have been playing poker as a profession for twenty five years now and have never "NOT ONE DAY" in my life been broke. People who cannot make a living in poker either are not advanced enough to do so or have other gambling vices like the pit or sports betting to keep them broke. I have seen very good poker players stay broke because of their other habits. On the other hand players with the correct BR management and discipline will never go broke, i have seen this fact time after time. Also in the last post there were some replies as to the luck ratio in poker that were just plain ridiculous. Poker in the long run is 90% skill 10% luck "PERIOD". So you can believe what you want i guess, but i go by my life and other successful players that i know.

I agree with what you say completely but I think it is possible for a good poker player to go broke with Br management if they get extremely unlucky.

how extremely unlucky r u talking about? if he loses 25 full buy ins? or if he moves down a level after having lost his 6-7 out of 25 buy ins and lost at the lower level too. its HIGHLY UNLIKELY for someone who practices proper bankroll management to go broke. unless they SUCK!!:thrasher:

I am playing some free games was having fun on hero poker and there freerole Omaha games. Also pretty soon I am going to take a shot at higher stakes online but with only a 500$ roll. Trying to get a staking thing going were I am the staker. Looking into stocks and burn a couple hundred at the local casinos every couple of months or so mainly on table games. Also every now and then I take a shot at the lotto with 2-3 hundred dollars. Bankroll management is something I need to work on but I have more fun just going wild with it.

I have been mainly a tournament player but want to get more into cash games. Wish the local casinos did not take an hour drive to get to. Starting to play a lot of blackjack. Not much live poker mainly been playing online. My plan is just to keep learning and trying different things. I am still just a degenerate havent hit that big win yet and still working on the discipline and self control to grind it out.

The whole deposit cashout thing here is a grey area.. nobodys really knows i feel like haha... all i know is that if i use a prepaid debit card i can deposit online and other people have successfully withdrawn money from different sites...

Its all up in the air here. Bovada has been the best can deposit and withdraw.
Basicly its the poker rooms breaking the law and the poker playrs are not.
Carbon will let you deposit but never withdrawn from them.
If you dont use a HUD then Bovada may be the way to go on stars I am sure everyone is gathering data on you and so they have a leg up on your game.

POKER PROFFESION GAMBLING - Its only not gambling if you are able to get backed for all your play. If you put your own money at risk then it is still gambling. Maybe you always win but its still gambling.

OP has made this interesting by stipulating that we're ONLY talking about live poker - and that brings about a huge issue. There's only so many levels you can drop down when you're playing live. $1/$2 is about as low as most casinos go. You can't make up volume by multitabling, because you're playing live.

Say your regular game is $5/$10 and you're making a living playing in that game. There's only a couple of levels below that you can drop to if you run bad and need to rebuild your bankroll. And it takes a lot longer to rebuild your roll at that lower level because like I said, you can't multitable to bump your volume up and live poker is slow, but at the same time, your expenses are unchanged.

Congrats to OP for following correct BRM and never going broke. Just because you've been able to do it doesn't mean everyone who does the same thing will be safe though - or indeed that you're guaranteed to be safe in the future.

If you read their bios, most of the best players in the world have gone broke one or more times. The cards can be cruel for long periods of time as we all know. It's a game of skill and the better players will win over time. But ya gotta gamble along the way....:)

Poker is gambling, even if you win every time you play, which doesn't happen. You risk your own money and is therefore gambling

You can risk your own money starting a business is that gambling? There are risks in every single thing you do i mean in reality you can make an argument for anything being a gamble for something.. unprotected sex with some strange girl you just met at the bar.. now thats gambling..

So in response to domeburglar, All those things are gambling that you listed. Starting a business, and unprotected bathroom sex with a girl you met at a bar are both gambling, they both have substantial risk, just like poker

whilst i fully except a player who is disciplined skilled and follows proper BRM is highly unlikely to go broke (once they pass a certain point that is).

I do believe that this original poster is making it up something does not seem right about his brag seems like fantasy character building. I have had several mentally ill friends who have shown these sort of characteristics. I can't consciously break down the subtle differences between legit and fantasy story tellers but there is something my sub conscious is noting and i trust my intuition.

I do not believe this guy.
