Poker is a game of strategy and tactics, but luck must also be present.

Poker is a game of skill, with a big dollop of luck thrown in. To be a winning player long term you need to be able to figure odds and outs quickly and accurately. You also need to be able to read people at the table. You also need the ability to manage your bankroll and temprement. The luck element plays a large part in the short term, but you can't win long term without the neccassary skills.

Both, but skill will always win over luck in the long run (and usually in the short run too)

Each hand in a game of poker is a game of skill AND chance/luck.y? A poker career, played over many, many hands is a game of skill.
Why? Because, in the long run, the outcome of all hands combined relates more to the skill of the player than just dumb luck. The player will lose some hands because the odds of winning were 70%, or 80%, or even 95%, but the bad guy got lucky and cashed in on the 30%, or 20%, or 5% suck out.
Playing with skill, the good poker player will still win, in the long run, close to expected percentages of hands. And if you win 70% of the hands vs 30%, you are a skilled winner, not just a lucky donk.

It's impossible to win in poker always if you're just lucky. The element of luck plays a role only in the short term.

Both. Poker is a game that you have to use your skill to manage and increase your chances.

To be honest, I usually compare poker to rpg games. In rpg games, although luck is a factor (and many times it is a stat itself, as it is in the D&D games or Bethesda's rpgs) that can affect, for example, critical strikes, you cannot rely on that all along all the game storyline.
Same happens in poker, although you can get lucky (Imagine you have 2-7o and you bluffed AI against A-K, flop comes A A 4, turn spits a 2, and by the river you get another 2) you cannot rely on that luck for every hand you play. Skills like calculating the outs and the odds will make your game stronger, also knowing how to move frome tight to loose gamestyle, and mainly having your tilt-O-meter under control.

All in all, although luck is involved, is not the main factor. No one has ever won a wpt only by being lucky, I believe and hope.

poker is a game of luck if you bring in interest the good luck to have 80% skill and 20% is the best ratio for victory

It takes great skill to manage the volatility that luck swings bring.

For professionals there are a lot of emotions in the game .. Downswing can be very stressful

To be successful at poker you need skills , experience , talent and for sure some luck , professionals also don't always make good decision and get lucky in some some moments etc
Skills take the important proportion in a player , but luck also has a proportion it can have an impact , but what makes you the winner is you , what did you learn , how do analyze the situations , did you learn from your mistakes and many hidden factors too.

I personally agree with the statement that poker is more about the skill of the player over that experience of the "newer" players.
In my opinion poker is all about your image at the table, with that being said I would also like to comment that your skill has a large part of that. The more experience and skill you retain will absolutely help you on the tables

I play only tournaments (freerolls) and there is like 75-80% skill other luck (for my play ) but other freeroll players can do it even 50-50.

Luck is very important in poker, but more skillful players will have an advantage over less skillful players in the long run.

skill?

personally i feel like its a bit of both...

for the skill part, there are alot of factors to put in, such as position, math, as in equity...etc.
of course your gonna need luck to hit those cards lol...
i haven't had much luck lately, i haven't won a tournament in a very long time... maybe hit some small ITM here and there.... but nothing huge...

so im gonna have to work on my skill part, and hopefully the luck comes into play... i mean i know how to play, and know all the basics.. and know the strategies, and advanced stuff, but i guess im just not that good.. lol..

I think that the skill in poker comes to the fore. Especially for long game distances, where less chances are given good luck and a great role plays the skill.
But chance plays a specific role. Chance in poker is applicable for games at short distances (for example, a turbo tournament, where the blinds increase faster than usual). Here at one moment have to put all-in and count on luck.

It takes both skill and luck to win at poker. Skill is what helps you maintain a winning record over the long haul. Luck helps in the short term. Sooner or later your luck will run out, but you skill is there for the long haul.
