What do you do when you get pocket rockets in your hand? I know thats a very vague question but lets just say that its pre-flop and your in for atleast half your chips/money.... what do you do? It seems most times when you play online with them, you end up losing to a lower pair hittin there set or even more ridiculous you lose to a gut shot straight/flush draw.... there not even open ended or nothing...... *sigh* what do you do when you get the rockets?

you raise....5x the BB sounds nice, if multiple limpers - more.

with aces or any hand position is key, say your utg or ugt+1 and your stack size is average with a loose agressive table you can float out a min raise bet looking for a re raise that you can then go all in with. If you have a tight table or a passive one you need to make your raise to at least 10% of the average stack size, up to 1/3 your stack. If your in late postion, any raise, re raise them 2 x the pot. Remember with any big pp you must protect your hand, and dont be afraid of just jamming it all in right off the bat.

Raise 4-5x the BB and if called, hope to win the pot.

bad advice here zippy. a min raise from ep is likely to only build a huge multi-way pot, the last thing you want. you can limp reraise if you want, but thats dangerous, and when it does work everyone knows what you have. you never make raises based on percentages of stack sizes, make raises in relationship to blinds/limpers/other raises.

Some very good advice here. I agree with the above posts. Raise 5-6xbb pre flop. Whatever you do DON"T slowplay a pp.

limp on only on a lag LAG table, most free rolls are full of players whom are calling stations however so if thats what you play then you must jam in from 10-30% of the average stack size.

I'm of the mind that almost always you want to figure out how to get all of your chips in the middle and get at least one caller.

First to act with an all in will usually only work in freerolls, or very LAG tables, so a min raise praying someone will reraise generally works good from early position.

In later position a min raise over a raise will often goad the original raiser into re-raising , which is exactly what you want.

If your in the SB, and the table is mucked to you, then anything larger than a check will usually get BB folding, so the raise doesn't make you much from the SB. If there are raisers ahead of you, you want to encourage them to bet more, so over betting is seldom a great option unless you know someone will call, or better re-raise you.

If you are in the BB and the table walks you, (oh such sorrow) well, thats poker!

limp on only on a lag LAG table, most free rolls are full of players whom are calling stations however so if thats what you play then you must jam in from 10-30% of the average stack size. The reason in this case to use stack size is to narrow the range of hands that are +ev to call with. with blinds of 10/20 a 4 bb raise is 80 wich is less than 6% of that average 1500 stack. Calling a bet of up to 10% (150) now is considerd ok with almost any decent cards, suited aces, suited broadway, connectors etc. With that first early pos caller you then will get a train of other callers whom are looking at pot odds. Some timessome aggro steps up and goes all in to collect the dead money, where you can call but even then may have a multi way pot. If your inital bet is over 10%, say 180 to 500 you might not get any callers, but if you do you can reasonalby narrow their range of hands down to big broadway, big pairs or KK, AK.

Wow, people are advocating such scared play with them. It's the best hand in poker, you want 1 or 2 callers. The play advocated by most here is likely to get you 0 action and you'll pick up the blinds. Raise preflop, but raise how ever much you usually do, the standard is 3x BB +1 BB/limper. You have to be able to lay down AA on a flop, as unless you set you don't want to be committing your entire stack (assuming you bought in max and opponent has close to max) with just an overpair. There are situations where we will stack off with AA unset, but this is all about reads. If you can't fold AA postfop then sure the kind of play advocated here (open raising 6x BB) is likely to work the best, but if you can play poker postflop, you want at least 1 caller. That's the recipe for extracting much more money, especially with people who will commit a lot with their TPTK or similar.

ah ok sorry about that, my advice was only for cash games :). I do agree you have to be much more aggressive in a tournament just because you don't want to be busting out and losing half your stack is much worse in a tourney. Say you get 3-bet postflop and decide you're behind. That's fine in a cash game, you just reload and you didn't lose your stack with an over pair. In a tourney if you're in the lead that one play could kill you. Obviously it depends in a tourney, but my comment was on cash games, as those are what I primarily play.

i would raise as much as you can especially when you have a bad position, so you can avoid people calling with just crap and trying to hit something and if you notice there is a dangerous board with many possibilities, i would lay it down.

There is not a answer that suits all situations, but i will say: Raise BIG, play HARD! Never ever slowplay big pairs..And also very important, fold if u get JJ5 flop and u just know that the other guy have hit it..

Took a long time for me to learn how to fold a big hand..Actually my heart allmost stopped some times when i got AA..( First year i played LOL)
