I'm of the mind that almost always you want to figure out how to get all of your chips in the middle and get at least one caller.
First to act with an all in will usually only work in freerolls
, or very LAG tables, so a min raise praying someone will reraise generally works good from early position.
In later position a min raise over a raise will often goad the original raiser into re-raising , which is exactly what you want.
If your in the SB, and the table is mucked to you, then anything larger than a check will usually get BB folding, so the raise doesn't make you much from the SB. If there are raisers ahead of you, you want to encourage them to bet more, so over betting is seldom a great option unless you know someone will call, or better re-raise you.
If you are in the BB and the table walks you, (oh such sorrow) well, thats poker!
