I just figured I would moan a little about how dumb I played today.
I 1st entered into $7500 guaranteed w/ 85 other people. Was in 2nd 3rd or 4th place through most of the tournament until there are about 15 people left. It pays through 10th place. I get the dumb idea to start trying to take peoples blinds (that I don't need at all to get into a paying spot) and lose everything over about 4 hands and finish in 12th place! (Out of the money).
Then I played a $2500 guaranteed. Im in 1st place the whole tournament until the break when I decide to start calling short stacks all in bets to try to get people out. I lost every time I did that and went out in like 21st place. (Again out of the money). Played a $1000 guaranteed and again get up to 1st place and start calling short stacks all in bets and go out in 30th. (Out of the money).
How do you get rid of dumb idea syndrome???? I was sober doing all this, thats what I don't understand. I don't even have an excuse.
I threw away what could easily have been $1,000 worth of winnings on really dumb moves. :puke:

Anyone else ever do stuff like that?

Just remember what happened the next time you play. I don't play the stakes you do, but after every tournament I play I sit back and try to figure out all the things I did wrong, and then try to improve them. I hate getting on these free rolls with vacant seats and try to steal blinds, it always gets me in trouble, later in tournaments I just try to steal one blind per round at most to pay for my blind. The main thing is you know waht you did wrong, just watch out not to do it again next time.

Having sat to your right recently I know you to be an aggressive player. You were obviously not playing to get in the money. You were playing to win. I like your style.

I like to wait

When someone starts betting really aggressive at a final table I just wait. Let the cards take care of whos getting knocked out. Almost every final table I have been at there has been someone who was overaggressive. I just wait until my cards are right and call. If you hit that person up on the call chances are they are going to be on tilt and that only helps you, if you go down to the clown, thats a bad beat. Most of the time I have noticed that the person who was playing superaggressive gets gone in time.

You should play big stack poker with the chip lead just don't do it like a maniac. Don't pot commit yourself with a weak hand. I have done the exact same thing as you more times than I care to remember! Probably the best thing to do when only the final tables pays and you are very close is to tighten up some but not drastically cause you will be able to still muscle the short stacks around. Now when you have a tourney that pays alot of places and you are close to the money generally it is not worth altering your style greatly when you are close to the money because generally the lowest paying spot isn't even your buyin! It is all about wins!!

I always play for the money. I have throw really good cards away to get into the money. And I try to play every level most in the money to get to final table some times its better to wait and let them take each other out.

We all tend to have these kind of days. Slow play seems to help me get to the end more then not.

Hi - Sounds to me like you were getting bored and wanted to mix things up. I've done that a few times and then finished out of the money. After about 2 hours I start getting bored or antsy and try some things. Like Hotrod, I've looked over may past games to see where I made mistakes and many times its chalked up to boredom. Folding and folding many times - gets boring. LOL

P.S. I'll be watching out for you tho! :)
