It is fine as long as they can take it without taking things too personal.

Haha...I've never really played with relatives or friends online, but I have seen some of my friends play online. One of my friends is the classic "I have two suited cards so I am definitely seeing the flop" type of guys, and the other is just so-so but makes fun of the first guy. Its pretty funny to see them both play online, because it would be impossible for either of them to make money at poker. I see them do things that make me cringe, but they could care less what advice I have for them. The first guy hits his flush once in a while and makes a decent amout of money when he hits, so he thinks that he is god's gift to poker. He doesn't realize how much money he lost trying to see all of those flops and how much he has lost chasing flushes that don't hit. ~Rant over~

I'd say you need to gauge how serious everyone is about poker.

I'm very serious when I play and I had the best time playing with some other Cardschat folks in Reno a few years back because they are about as serious as I am. But when I played at a home game recently with a good friend where his buddies were more focused on whisky shots than on a fair game of poker, I found it hard to handle. I'm almost better off going to a cardroom where I don't know anybody.

I tried playing against co-workers and friends. Played in 2 friendly $20 buy in's last year and still had trouble concentrating and playing serious poker. Lots of jokes, distractions.

I will stick to the CC tourneys. Serious play with a nice blend of sportsmanship and fun.

i always think it is a bad idea to gamble in general with family members and close friends but as long as they undersand that it is a game and not take it too personnal win or lose then is should be ok

I don't like it myself, I am always worried that I don't play them the same, which is against the rules. I would rather not play at the same table until the final table. I would not play at a cash table with them though. I would rather just break out the chips and play at home.

They always whine and want there money back and they start making excuses why they lost.

This is so true. I've had drunk buddies get angry over losing and start fighting.

I have a friend that I play a lot with him, but live, and I hate this because we alredy know a lot of the others games, so we sometimes know that the other is bluffing and make a ace high call in a 8 8 10 7 k board >.<
and the worst thing is that most of the times the caller gets it

I don't think I've ever played against a friend online, and definitely not family. I don't really see the point. I would rather try to take money off of randoms.

I have never played against family and probably never will since none of them play poker but even if they did, i wouldn't feel right taking money from them even if i won it fairly, i guess im too nice.:)
and i have played with friends, but not online, im fine playing them as long as it's only for a small amount of money.

Home Games

My extended family (mainly nephews nieces and brothers) will not play kitchen table games with me any more because I always (always) end up winning, they r too busy having fun and beering and pizza ordering. My kids know better than to try any more. My friends know me well enough to not want to risk serious money in a game with me.

Here at CC is sort of like family and friends but more serious about poker, which makes it more fun and less personal, and nobody can throw a slice of pizza at me when I felt them. :)

Hahaha only you Marginal! : )

At the table, it's nothing personal, we just want each other's money.

its all fun as long as it is for little or no money and nobody takes anything too personal. I remember i was playing a freeroll with my brother once and we ended up at the same table. he flopped top pair top kicker, and since i was a bigstack and we were heads up, i decided to try to bully him with my third pair. After the turn, i bet enough to put him all in and when he called i rivered two pair. He got pretty mad and was ragging on me and telling me what a bad player i was. lol
