I'm Just Curious,
After reading about the new game format and the responses it brings a up a question. Is players dumping chips in tourneys to other players common? I would think it probably isn't but after reading that thread it would appear the concept has crossed some of your minds?
Any input?

You mean collision? Yeah it pretty common to see players do that, especially in sng. I know the majority don't like it, but what can you do.

I hate to think it is common. Would make me give up on internet poker. What thread are you referring to? I did not see it.

I am now very concerned usually my anxiety gets the better of me, and i guess it has this time to. I can no longer hold it in its true me and a few friends have been cheating in the sunday storm.

Yes we realised that with the 30000+ players every week entering this tournament there was a lot of money to potentially be made and what better way to do it then five of us entering the same tournament and hoping to get on the same table to chip dump and bully the competition out of pots.

with a 1 in 666 chance of ending up on the same table as one of my team mates and the potential to have 0.001% more chips on the final table if we got there the benefits were clear for anyone to see.

We have not made a final table yet.

But we hope to someday.

(Btw I am been sarcastic if one of the mods could please add a picture of the sunday millions and then have 8 chinese men photoshopped onto different seats and then an arrow pointing to one of the other seats saying you this would be great unfortunately i do not poses the skills to do this right now but it would be epic.)

I doubt it, plus the sort of player to do that is unlikely to be any good anyhow.

So goes from 2 donks with average stacks to 1 donk with a double stack

I don't see how this could go on for to long at the same stakes on the same site. There are people that play the same stakes daily and you get to know the names so they would have to hit and run at various different buy ins IMO, to keep from the regulars catching on and reporting it.

Its common for me to play with my friends on tables but not WITH my friends.. well more live play than online but occasionally we play at the same table.. I HATE collusion and would never be involved in it so anytime i play with a friend we have a mutual agreement..

We play eachother as we would any other opponent and after the session is over we refund eachother any big pots we took off eachother.. This way its still fair but we also dont feel bad at the end! In tournaments tho anything goes lol i knocked my friend out on the bubble in a live tournament once haha i shipped it tho.. so i gave him his buy in back lol

i hate collusion too, but i think its is on various sites a common tool to get money together in lower stacks where there are less regs, eventhough i have to say that even on doubleups 1$ there are pretty often the same players, so after some time you should normally spot them an get them reported

there will always be people doing that and properly wont stop either. i have ones caught 2 on stars doing it they also got banned from the site, so some people will always take that risk and making poker bad for other players/people.

Yeah poker collusion still happens but hopefully better software will be able to detect such activity

I have def heard of collusion in online games, but it seems more likely in smaller tourneys or on cash tables. In a big MTT it seems unlikely that cheaters would have a very good chance of ending up on the same table. Just curious though, what kind of software could be used to detect collusion? I can understand if ppl are on the same IP, but what if they are in different locations on the phone or skype?

The reality, imo, is that collusion happens. BUT! the even more sad truth is that players are typically so bad or don't understand the game that it really doesn't matter many times.

Even though they may be cheating, they suck so bad it doesn't affect the game too much.

This is of course talking about low limit (under $$50 buy in sng games). If you play well, you can have a +EV in these games.

Cheers

Collusion happens a lot more live than online. It's not usually hardcore collusion like re-opening raises hand signals or anything just softplaying but it's still cheating. I talk with a bunch of the people I play against on a daily basis online and none of us would ever dream of colluding meanwhile when I made some friends with some other 5/10nl regs in Vegas over the summer because I was playing in those games a decent amount they were almost offended when I declined to collude with them. They were like "we're cool right no need to try to win from each other when we can just gut the fish" and I answered that no I would not be colluding with them and that I'd try to take as much from them as I could just as I'd do to a fish. That said I honestly don't think a lot of live players even understand how it's cheating.

tbh it probably doesn't change ev too much, and most of them don't even understand how to take advantage of it but this happens pretty much at any casino even the lowest stakes daily tourneys a lot of the regs will be like "yeah but I like this person why would I 3-bet them?" and most of the time they don't even realize what they're doing is cheating.

It's pretty unfortunate because it is cheating no question but it's all but impossible to prove and happens everywhere.

when has cheating not been part of the game? I find the sites set up for cheating and those don't keep players notes are losing out.

I think this is way more common in low limits. I have read things about rampant cheating in vegas back when it was mob run. Way before the poker boom. But only at the low stakes. Things like crooked dealers and marked decks.

The thing that worries me more would be people telling each other what cards they have. This would be huge if you knew 2 or 3 other hands at the table. Then you would know your draw is way more likely to come and things like that. This would be even more affective if it was Omaha.

I dont see how this is cheating in any way... It in no way changes any other players chance of winning... Is it cheating for two players to buy stake in eachother in a tournament????? That is basically what is going on here.. I in NO WAY, SHAPE, or FORM work with any friend that i might play poker with.... we do not chip dump or try to work together to get us both in the cash...

I play him like id play him if i didnt know him... Its like hes any other player im trying to take allllll of his money just like im trying to take everyone elses... I just realized it may seem like chip dumping when i knocked him out on the bubble.. That is not what happened.. Heres how the hand played out..

Im MP w/ QQ, He was on the button.. I raised 6x BB, he calls.. flop come 6 Q 9 rainbow... I lead out for about 3/4 pot... he shoves all in.. I say im sorry buddy but i have to call you... He show 66.. a standard hand that would get the chips all in.. knocked out on button NOT CHEATING..

I gave him his buy in back after because thats how my friends work.. if one of us wins whether it be poker, blackjack, roullette, whatever we share.. give money to the loser whatever...
