Just wondering what systems some of you use to keep tabs on other players?
I use my own version of the system listed in the book "Killer poker online 2". Its pretty good and has done me right so far but I feel there has to be something better out there.

I just use the note system that the client provides for us. It's pretty useful if you see the same person again in another tournament.

I like the little icons you can use on Merge. Makes game selection easy. I mostly use PokerTracker4 for my notes. So a little of both.

I also like Merge's icon system.
Although I really was asking about any type of short-hand or codes and labels you may use to generally describe a players traits and play characteristics.
Any short-hand/labeling systems out there you guys are using that works?

I use the quick player tags and player color. Dont use a separate system besides the one provided by the poker site I am playing.

I've always made a practise of making a ton of notes. Not so much these days vs. earlier on but still a fair bit (still make quite a few in priv./forum games as you'll see the same players over & over). Also worth noting (occassionally) how they may have perceived your own play in certain spots.
I've got all kinds of short-hand stuff I've developed over time.
I think it's very important especially for newer players to make notes. Helps them to remain focused & helps to develop the intuitive process.

I've also got a fairly extensive colour-code system (I use over a dozen diff. colours on Stars, lol ).

The notes are very useful in the tournaments. They are with the program as it is, and each player deploys your system.

Normally i just write notes about betting patters and i use to attach the type of player ( donk, fish, aggressive, tight), stuff like that.

Use notes that will help you in specific situation in the future. Don't just observe a bad play and tag him as weak. I've actually used colours for different things - green being "general donkster" (someone likely to go broke early on); blue being someone with "bad headsup play" and then I'll look at the note which made me choose that colour for him.

So, like:

"plays very tight as shortstack on bubble of STT"
"mr C JTo 10 hu" - minraise calls jack ten off for 10 big blinds heads-up

and so on, hope this helps

I take notes using the short notation.for example
F - flop
T - Turn
R-river
Ch - check
c - call
rs - rase
mr - mini rase
ip - in position
oop - out of position
example rs co 33 F ip b(2/3) T b(2/3) R b(2/3) @ 3TKJ7
means opponent raise 33 of the cutoff, on the flop in position played bet 2/3 pot. also put on the turn 2/3 and the river 2/3 board (@) was 3TKJ7

I use the same system. It's nice just to know if they are good or bad and adjust accordingly from there.

Wow like the short hand post yea I tried using notes, but have yet to face tough decision where referring back to them was necessary. Also I play only on bovada these days with no player tags I find them useless unless I run into a really good or aggressive player in a tourney.

There are allot of ways to keep track of notes. But the best thing to do is to try and meld the notes with the players name that way you start to remember them. You can also use mnemonics This helps if you start to play live tournaments, because in that situation you can't use notes and have to memorize everything. Good luck hope all goes well.

Notes are one of the most important aspects of the game. If you know your foes moves, and you can guess his cards to 75% success you are going to know when you should raise or just fold.

Notes are pretty cool thing to look after. I use clients notes and color tags. They help a lot because I meet with the same players over and over on the stakes I play these days.

I also use client notes, and notes on pkr are one of the better side of pkr, i use hand replayer and watch hands to take additional notes. My notes look like this 3bb pfr utg or minraise pfr and if i see his holding i add it to the note, it is the easiest way to find betting pattern preflop i can say that it is profitable, i also use similar system for flop and post flop potsize cbet or min donk bet or check shove river and i always add hole cards to the note whenever i see them...

the faster and easier to me is colors,
i use orange for a player with a wide range of hands
blue is a player who just go with monster
then a red is lag
green is lap

then if a notice some pattern in someone i use notes, so for instance hsi approach preflop or postflop, if he fold easily or fights back, etc

also bluffers i take note of them really careful, when i guy does that more 3 or 4 times in less than 100 hands

but yes sometimes i think it should be a proper systems to make easier and more accurate without so many irrelevant info

Huh? What... because there's limited oppurtunity for metagame stuff?

This is actually one of the bigger reasons I dislike Bodonka. Not only do I not know who the player is (or know if I have any history with them, etc.)... but I find it difficult to relate a # to a player's style of play. Something about a 'name' &/or a name & picture that helps my brain to associate it with how that person plays the pokerz.
