Played Higher Limit

Well, as most of you know I usually play small limits. .05/.10 and .25/.50 max. After my big win Friday I tried to withdraw money and they told me I needed to have at least 1500 ipoints. I only had 742 at the time. I understand that because this is all from a $25 No deposit bonus. So I played some $1/$2 limit all weekend and did O.K. won about $50. Then tonight I got daring and went to a $3/$6 limit table. Oh my, did I crush that table. I sat down with $100 and left about an hour and a half later with $360. And I got all my points I needed (on the higher limits the points go up fast). So now I can make my withdrawl and I have almost $300 more to play with. Really wondering what limit to play now. I have to be careful not to lose it back at the higher limit. What limits do you guys think I should play now? I have around $950 to play with in there.

Thats awesome I have to mention my recent win wasn't that great but I made $1.55 in $500 freeroll on PP. After that I tried to play a ring game but then I learned the minimum to sit was $5 at every table. So I played black jack minimum bet was $1 and got 2 black jacks in a row. Then I sat at a $0.10/$0.25 PL table and 2.5 hours later I was at $160 and cashed out. I bought pizza and my kids got a movie each.

I suggest playing at $2/$4 just sounds like your on a streak and you can win lot's there if you lose your first session you should go to $0.50/$1 and tweak your game.

what am I to say you should just keep winning. but STAY AWAY FROM NO LIMIT TABLES THEY CAN BE EVIL IF YOU ARE TRANSFERRING FROM LIMIT.

I hate being a bore, but I wouldn't recommend you move to $2/$4 until you have a $1200 bankroll. There's a very noticeable difference in toughness between $1/$2 and $2/$4, and chances are any loss would hurt psychologically (losing a $60 can feel like you're losing "real money"). I suggest you stay at $1/$2 and work yourself up from there.

$100 was a pretty small stake to take to a $3/6 table... so you'd need much more bankroll than that for playing anything like those stakes regularly. If you're used to 0.05 and 0.10 then it may be worth trying out playing at $0.50/$1.00 for a week or two, and try to build up your bankroll some more, then $1/2, etc. Part of the reason for this is that however well you played, I can't help but thing the cards must have been running a bit hot as well for that kind of amount of win, and equally however well you play, if you're playing Limit and you have a really cold streak it's really hard to not lose money, so gradually moving up the stakes, and keeping something like 200x the Big Bet amount for bankroll is a sensible approach.

Take the advice of the 2 above and treat that day as a VERY nice bonus, but a one off.

you had a lot to play for today sammy having to clear your points to cash out and doing so in the right way but with less of an incentive playing at those levels day in day out you could end up regretting it.I think we all know what level feels right for us at anytime and it seems to me your doing very well at the level your at so maybe the time might be right to go up only you can know m8.

With your current 952 bankroll, i would suggest the 1/2 limit tables, since you have 400 BB, and that means your bankroll is protected. If you think you can beat the higher limits regularly and you want to grow the bankroll quickly , then you could try the 2/4 table ( you would have 200 BB , with is an unprotected bankroll ) . Keep in mind a single hand in the 2/4 tables can losse you up to 80 dollars esay,but at the same time you could make those 80 esay . :hello: The good thing in this table is, the play is a little more decent and blinds steals are more probable , try to pick on the tight blinds, for an esay 6 dollars ^_^ . Playing only AA,KK,QQ,AKs,AKo and stealing 2 or 3 blinds can esaily net you 50 dollars in those tables. I know its an exageration to only play those hands, but this gives you an idea ^_^

Oh, Your not being a bore. This is the kind of advice I am looking for. By no means do I want to give this money back. I'll be playing at the $1/$2 tables for a while as this seems to be the general concensus of the thread here. I have only been playing for a year and a half so I need the experience still.

Yeah, I really didn't know how much to bring to that table. I just looked at the current stack and only (2) were over $100, so thats what I started with. Live and learn I guess.

If I sit down at the $1/$2 table is $100 stake to start sufficient there?

$100 at 1/2 is okay. I usually sit down with $60 at 1/2, and buy-in with another 40 if I fall down below 30. You'll find most buy-in with around $50, though.

As a general rule of thumb, I buy-in with 30 big bets, i.e. $60 at 1/2 and $120 at 2/4.

Full table Chuck. Trying real hard not to play short handed. I believe my tight/aggresive style is better at full table ring games.

This is Kinda freaky!
I put in my post I had around $950 in my bankroll. It is actually $952. How did you know that?

When going to a table i normally start with 25/50c - $20, .50c/$1-$40 and so if at a $1/$2 table - min $80

Although to collect the ipoints required i have found you do not need to go too high up the scale, just playing at a 10 person .50c/$1 table you can easily rack up a 100 points in a very short time.

Mainly because many players are maniacs and the more they bet - the more points you collect, and also even better you dont have to be involved in the pot to collect them.

Sit back watch the nutters go on an all-in frenzy and watch those points build

So,
This all seems to be going way to fast. I have been playing 1/2 strictly since this thread(9 days) and Now I am above this $1200 mark. Do I go for the $2/$4 tables now or practice some more at the $1/$2? How much to buy in with at the 2/4- $150?

usually 30 BBs so 120 roughly
from Phil Hellmuth's Texas Holdem he says that usually your swings will be around 50(average) - 100(extreme) BBs
so if you're confident enough with your limit play then move up and try it for a few days
then move back down if you feel you're not ready yet

I buy in with $120.

As a guideline, I like to play at least 10k hands at a limit before moving up. Since I cash out 50% of my earnings, I haven't been at a limit for shorter than 10k hands once I got to $.50/$1, so for me the determining factor has always been my bankroll. But playing a lot of hands helps in making sure that you're comfortable at the level you're at, and to minimize swings (specifically up-swings, in this case).

The general rule of thumb that I follow is 50x the BB. I've noticed though that there isn't realy a big difference in competition level untill you start getting above $3 / $6. So if you are only moving from $1/$2 to $2/$4, 30x BB should be plenty to handle swings for a tight player.
