Only one. Don't risk money you can't afford to lose. :)

Make a small deposit and play. Play money is not real poker.

I'd suggest start with freerolls a few times just to get a feel for how the online real money stuff goes, maybe try to win a few dollars on freerolls and try out SnG's, micro stakes cash games or really low buy-in tourney's and find what kinda atmosphere you feel comfortable with and you don't even have to put any real money into the game with this strategy. Best of luck to you with whatever you do end up doing!

Before I started playing poker I was studying the game and watching a lot of videos and playing a lot of freerolls I think it is the quickest way to take a big jump in real money poker.

Remember the object isn't to avoid losing money. It's to take every penny you can from your opponents.

Actually it's both or there wouldn't be a fold button.

Play within your bankroll. If you are new to poker you want to start out at the lowest stakes and work your way up until you feel comfortable.

You do not want to chase losses (Move up to higher stakes to get your money back quick) That is a recipe for disaster. There is a reason why all the best players are at the higher stakes. They know how to play and they have bigger bankrolls to withstand variance swings.

I take it you're bad at cash games. The mentality you have is often what people who only play tournament poker speak.
It's one or the other. You can't go up and down at the same time.

Play freerolls until you have some real money in your account, then start playing micro stakes, learn to manage your bankroll.
The first thing you'll notice when you start playing with real cash is people are much more conservative than in play money or freerolls, which is to be expected.
Good luck!

Their are lots of freerolls out there,,,fund your account with that $$$,then your not playing with `scared` money. Oh`and one other thing,if you can`t beat the guys in the freerolls, you won`t beat the guys playing `real` money.

Of course, if it is regular freeroll. ;)
If you win or lose some hyper-turbo freeroll it says nothing. It's only luck.

I don't know that freeroll winnings would qualify as not playing with "scared" money. You likely have hours and hours invested for a couple bucks of winnings. That's a lot of time to lose on a single bad beat. Where, a $50 deposit is probably significantly less than 10 hours of work at a normal job and is an amount most people could afford to spend on entertainment. If you deposit $50 and play the $2 or $5 buy-in games, you'll have a ton of entertainment without much need to fear losing. It isn't like you are going to be ruined, if you lose. Where losing freeroll winnings will mean starting over from scratch and an unpredictable amount of time that you have to invest before you get back to the tables.

Just deposit an amount that you can afford to lose on entertainment. Play stakes that are reasonable, compared to what you deposited. And, learn how to play real poker. Play money poker is a different game, which has little relation to real money poker.

I started with freeroll winnings until I had enough to withdraw, then I made a deposit for the bonuses. Having a larger Bank roll made me feel like I could do the higher stake games, and I've ended up losing most of it.

Don't risk your whole bank roll

Start from the Micro Limits there players are very weak and when you find that you have become strong enough for them just go to the upper level. I prefer the micro SNG to play but you know
