Does anyone feel that there is a problem with playing with play chips vs. real money? I find that for myself I make a lot of mistakes with play chips that I wouldn't really make with real money, and I'm wondering if these mistake could create bad habits long turn. Any Thoughts on this?

I dont think that playing with play chips will hinder your game with real $$. When you play w/ play chips, you always have that "what if" and "it costs me nothing" and "I can always reload more play chips for free" mentality. I used to play w/ play a while ago....but moved on because unless you get a million chips or some absurd #, you get cash on some sites, but it just really doesnt do anything for me....everyone plays till the river trying to catch their miracle card....no real skill involved.

I tend to push all-in alot just for the fun of it lol.

Stop playing play money and stick to real money - because you probably will learn some bad habits.

Playing with play chips is worse for your game than playing freerolls.

And yes, you will almost always develop bad habits when playing with play chips that will translate to real money losses when you first switch over.

not even close to a real game and not much to learn , but i think you can develop bad habits that will cost you in the real game. i avoid them and freerolls are just as bad but i sometimes play those.

i didnt just repeat everyone ,lol , we were all typing at once or something :)

I stopped playing play chips when I discovered freerolls.
If you are playing play chips because you don't want to deposit real money, freerolls give you the best of both worlds. Real money play and no financial committment.
Some will argue that freerolls don't qualify as real money play.
However, once you managed to earn some real money with freerolls, you are in pretty good shape to play the earnings in real money games with a chance of success.

Play money is great, if you're still learning how to play, like flush beats a straight, that kind of thing.

Or, if you're just playing for the fun of it, and the socializing. People chat a lot more at the play money tables than at the real money tables.

But, you will develop bad betting patterns that will cost you at the real money tables.

Well sometimes i think it can mess up your game. Play chips you will call with any draw or any hand just too see a flop. And if you do that in play chips and it works, then it might effect the way you play with real money because you will be thinking "ok it worked in play chips, so why wont it work now" and stuff like that. So i do think there is a possibility that it could mess with your real money play.

For reference purposes, at Stars I found the playing level at the 10,000 play money Sit and Goes pretty similar, maybe slightly better than the $1.10 real money Sit and Goes. It seems that by the time players get to that level, they place some value on their play chip bankroll and have developed some skills.

The ring tables don't have that many levels of buyin, so the quality of playing never gets very consistent.

I've been back at the play money tables myself, trying to learn stud, which I've never played before.

I dont think that playing with play chips will hinder your game and in turn play chips you will call with any draw or any hand just too see a flop.

That is EXACTLY why you are ****ing your game up.....

Playchips vs/ real money

I tend to push all-in alot just for the fun of it lol.

Stop playing play money and stick to real money - because you probably will learn some bad habits.

It is nice to have real money to play and I agree playing real is far more worthwhile of your time. However, let's look at the reality of life. So many people assume everyone has a telephone, a cell phone, a new car , a house and credit cards that bulge out of the wallet.

Well, in real life there are people who are exceptions like myself. I lost a major business to the tune of $200,000 and a divorce that cost me about twice that. It left me in ruin. I have since started a new business, and I have struggled to get back in the main flow of life. Unfortunately, for now I can not play real money, not even 20 cents. I have an issue with pokerstars at the present and trying to resolve their problem with accusations that I am another player when I know I am not, and they should know after 5 years of playing that I am not the person they are investigating. So transfers are out for the time being and although there is a way, I don't ask friends for chips or money. That is not to say that I haven't had friends who have won monster tournaments donating a buck or two to me for grins and giggles.

In the long run, don't assume. Not everyone has the opportunity to play real. I can say if I did have real money on Pokerstars right now I would do well. I do read alot of blogs and forums on improving my card play and I am a very good money manager, but for now I am stuck in play chips and I will play the same there as I do on real, and I will win consistently.

I hope this has impacted you a bit and made you think that not all people have access to real and it would be great to play a real money tournament, and even FPPs are gained only by having real money in the bank. So it is business as usual until my circumstances change and I will still try to learn as much as possible as I go along and ask for advice, suggestions, and anything else that will improve my game, maintain a sportsman approach and be polite, and finally, enjoy the people and the game and just have fun.

Thanks, that is all I have to say about that (Forrest Gump Voice)

play money has looser players. There are alot more people in the hands. if you have a good hand you can rake up chips fast.. If you get some bad beats in real money you can go to play money and build your confidence back up..when you run out of money you can build your play money up and trade for cash

I remember the good old days when people took play money seriously and I wanted to dominate the highest limit on Absolute.
