I look at it this way...if you play by the book, you become an open book... and an ATM for the pro and advanced players out there. learn here from others mistakes, and your better off.

its better to know than not to know the information in the books written by poker pros who are sharing their experiences with everyone

read books but don't follow the rules exactly

i.e. caro's book of tells generalizes certain motions/movements as tells for a bluff or tells of strength

pros who have read the book could purposely be doing a movement considered to be a tell for a bluff when really they are holding a monster

just read the books, take in the information in and judge your opponents play by your own analysis...but reading the books will help give you more information to analyze with

The books are good.

While the books are excellent references, you also need some of your own style in the game, or else everyone knows how you're playin...... Try Phil Helmuths book

Yes thats true, in the beginning I played according to the book, but you have to give it a touch of your one game, otherwise its not funny anylonger.
