Im sure he a very good player, but crist does he bitch about everybody he plays
ive seen him moaning about people going all in Queen, five
then the very next day he's doing the same to somebody else, or even a pair of 3's playing a Ace King

obviously its his game plan to say ive got the best cards thats why im playing the hand but sadly the more the pocket cam is used people will get fount out more and more so what do you think ??

his 9 bracelets might not be valued as much these days with a big influx of new people playing

what do you think ???

i like him make me smile but he's a complete muppet sometimes

Phil is one of the best poker players playing today, but he has one of the worst attitudes or at least he plays it that way. sometimes i think he comes off like that as part of his table image, but if thats true lol he is the master of it :)

His Brat image is no different than Mike "The Mouth". If it helps get under their opponents skin, then it is an advantage to them.

Personally I think he's a dope. And I don't think he'll win his 10th bracelet any time soon.

Just saw Mike get penalized for his mouth when he was just talking to another player in a friendly conversation. As for Phil he just complains too much, I rented a couple of dvd's that he put out and it's funny because he does just about everything the opposite at the table as to what he instructed on the dvd. Makes you wonder if that was a long term strategy plan, lol. In his video he was againsted sunglasses and headphones but that's all I see him in with his jacket zipped up to his chin. I guess that helps him dodge bullets like he says. lol.

I watched WPT last night and a guy named tony g. was playing who made hellmuth and matusow look very tame. I thought he was gonna get beat up the way he was talking. I really would like to see tournament of attitudes would be really interesting and entertaining also.

Phil, Mike the mouth, and Gus have attitude big time but it is their style of play. Each player has his or her own style. Phil is a good player but is not one of the best in my book. I like the players with good etiquette and manners sure we all get the bad beats but grin and bare it. It happens to the best of us its POKER.............Rock

RE: Phil Helmuth, This guy is a good player, however I think we will see less and less of him as many players out there with varied styles confuse him. As far as the complaining goes, well he wouldn't be Phil if he didn't cry all the time. I have a Phil Helmuth crying towel waiting for him when the day comes that I take him out of a tournament. Keep peddling those books and tapes Phil, (I have NONE of them) because you will make more $ there than on the tables in the future. GUNS333

can,t help thinking that he believe,s his own hype.definetly a very good player and his awards would suggest that he should be a legend, but legends are made by the way they react to every situation and i don,t think he has the ability.shame really!

There's a good possibility that the TV powers have decided to make him a bigger ass than he is in real life. Poker is becoming like pro wrestling - good guys and bad guys...

Just imagine what he would have been like if he was the first to 10 bracelets

"Im the first, la la la, Im the best - cos im the 1st to 10, la la la"

Thank god it was Johnny Chan and Mr Brunson - you never hear them claiming how great they are or even they had 9 in the first place.

I hate him. He play be a good player but he is my least faviorite. Grow the F* up. he whines about anything. This year in the wsop he got knocked out when his AQ lost to 77 and called the guy a bunch of words and did a rant *what kind of idiot puts all his money on 77*......APPARENTLY A LOT OF PEOPLE. SO many that they named it a '"race." when he sucks out he jumps up and down. When you suck out he gets pissed......God i hate em

Have to agree with "Rock" on both of his post, they are great players and have a style of there own. I'm sure we have all played with some that have a attitude and style of their own.

You know I hadn't thought about it that way but you're right! I remember some reality show producer once saying that they looked for people who would be a bit outrageous. After all boring people don't draw viewers right?

Last year The Amazing Race had a couple, Jonathan and Victoria, that fought constantly. They were really hated. But you know I tuned in each episode praying they'd be eliminated. And you notice I can remember them but not the couple that actually won!

So it's reasonable that the TV guys would try the same thing. Focus on Helmuth, Matasow, Laak etc. Or on someone like Sammy Farah with his rat pack gangster image. That's what attracts viewers. Problem is though that the new players feel they have to be the same way. But sad for them they're all 'tude and little talent! Just annoying and I see a lot of it both online and at brick and motar casinos.

So does that mean I can start my career as a bad guy , then be a good guy , then a bad guy , and all over again?

And for the record while I want to smack Phil when he talks, I respect him as a player. And I caught an intrest when he went and spoke a few words of encouragement to Greg Raymer....
Maybe he's not such a bad guy...
Better then "The Mouth" anyday.

I would say Phil is on the list of the greatest players who ever played the game. I would not be suprised if he were to win 2 or 3 bracelets in 2006 wsop or a couple wpt titles.

I fully agree.. Phil is a loud mouth but hey he is one of the best.. Need to put Tony G in that mix cause T.V guys will focus on those who are they good, the bad and the ugly.

Still want to see Phil, Mike and Tony in the same game.. it would be a hoot.

I agree with Count DeMoney. I'm not fond of the lack of respect with which Hellmuth sometimes treats his opponents or his (seemingly) sometimes hypocritical comments, but I can't deny that he's a great player, and his style works, and the television audience loves him, and I'll admit I'd be more likely to watch a round he's playing in too. In the game of ratings, the most attention-grabbing personality gets, surprise surprise, the most attention...

That said, if he were at my table berating me like that, I probably wouldn't be as into it!!

Phil is obviously a top flight player, 9 WSOP bracelets, but I suspect his ego will prevent him from becoming as good as he thinks he is.

a year on has Mr Helmuth actually won anything lately ??

i think anyone who makes a good living from poker is classed as great, to many players out there especially in the world series

id like to see him mellow and become more social watching the cash games he's just getting run over by negrano

Well, this thread is two years old? But anyway......Phil had a spectacular year in '06 with 8 cashes at the World Series, 4 top ten finishes, and cashing in over a million $, not to mention the record tying 10th bracelet. He doesn't play many other tournaments than the WSOP and the WPT, but I'd rather see an attitude like Hellmuth over Kaplan any day. If everyone was as nice as Danny Negreanu then there would be no point. ThaT would be boring...don't you think?
