Is it just me or does it seem his act at the table is getting old and very annoying?

Watching him this week on "Poker After Dark" sealed it for me. He talks way to much about NOTHING. He's more of a mumbler then anything else. He did this on "High Stakes Poker" and just went on and on about nothing. I don't mind table talk, but his is just foolish. Most of the time he makes no sense and just talks to Antonio about side bets.

I'm not knocking him as a player, he's not too bad. (Even though the idiotic raise against Safai with the S8 flush draw wasnt good IMO)

Anyone else feel this way? If not, who's someone you dislike at the table?

watching the first week of the Hellmuth Bash I really thought Bob Safai was a *****!! He kept taking shots at Tom Dwan and mouthing him. After Tom won a couple big pots from him, including the huge bluff, Bob kind of kept quiet. I love how Tom isolates Bob in almost every hand now lol

Laak does talk alot but I think he's a really good player. He is obsessed with side bets though lol

I like Laak. I think he is very enertaining, especially when the poker itself is nothing special at least he makes things interesting. My friend met him at the Gala UK tour final and had a good chat with him, laak sounds like a right laugh.

As for Bob Safai lol, he was outplayed by Dwan every time, and he was just getting mad. PAD has shown to be quite a shocking player.

I guess I haven't watched Laak enough to be annoyed by him yet. He definitely is a student of the game and understands odds. I'll bet that if he was forced to play without the hoody and the shades, he would be super easy to read.
As much as Hellmuth entertains me, he annoys me for the same reasons. I get annoyed with Negraneau's eye blinking issue too.
Alot of people are annoyed by Matusow, but he has become one of my favorites.

Laak has always been a talker at the table.
Supposedly he has a very High IQ and seems to go off on tangents all the time but so does Antonio. That's how the whole "What would Lawton say" comes from.
Sometime it annoys me to watch PAD or High Stakes when everyone is talking during the hands.

Daniel annoys me more for his ego then anything else. He comes off, to me, as someone who knows hes good and wants everyone else to notice it.

Oh and his impressions..he couldve done without dressing like Scotty at the HU Championship. His impressions of Ming and many others are pretty bad and racist. A friend of mine, whos asian and never watched poker before, seen the HSP Episode where Daniel was "sounding" like Ming. He was upset over it and said, "It doesnt matter If the guy is cool with it, he must've done it before and then the guy heard him and became cool with it. He just didnt tell him, "hey make fun of me". Does this guy do that all the time?" I explained it to him and he just shrugged his shoulders.

Phil H is fun to watch because you know most of it is an act. He's a good guy outside of the "poker world" and does a lot of charitys. The Mouth is fine by me too, he doesnt seem as bad as he used to be. His brother Scott is far worse and not that great of a player. You should listen to Scotts "show" sometime, he plays on Cake and swears all of poker is rigged and calls people in the chat room "morons" and "idiots" If you say anything against it. Keep in mind the guy lives at home with his Mom and Dad and is unemployed. lol

Gotta love the characters in the "poker world"

I had the exact opposite reaction to Phil Laak. I became a fan of the guy this week. I thought he was awesome; genuinely funny and entertaining, something that to be honest I rarely see while watching poker.
I watch Poker After Dark almost every night, and that was easily one of the best weeks I've seen, mostly because of Laak and Durrrr. Esfandiari's cool too. Hellmuth was definitely the least entertaining of the bunch, which was interesting.
Does anyone know where their show can be seen? "What Would Lawton Do", or whatever?

I didn't like Laak at first, which I think stemmed from the fact that I don't like Jennifer Tilly. I haven't been watching a ton of poker on tv recently, but it seems that her 15 minutes are up. So now that I don't have to deal with her bugging me all the time and reminding me to dislike her and Laak, I've kind of warmed up to him.

One thing about Phil Laak-he writes a great column in Bluff Magazine. And I think it's pretty funny when he and Antonio get going. All in all I think he's good for poker.

I think that Laak is playing poker the whole time his mouth is running. It's all part of a grand strategy to get the other players to take him too lightly. The whole thing about the side bets is to give the impression that he is too bored to play serious poker.

As much as I have watched PAD, I think the last two times I heard something really usefull, both came from Laak. He said, for every player yet to act preflop, there is a 5% chance that that somebody got dealt a real hand that will call him down no matter what he bets. He also said, "Poker is all about waiting for aces, and making what you can off the other hands that come along while you're waiting."

that is just laak, he's not trying it so it's his character. He has a column or set of articles about his ramblings and mumblings in BLUFF magazine too. He just has a crazy mind set, constantly thinking and picking anything and everything apart

Phil's alright in my book

Phil laak, always liked him still do great player. I guess people try and control the table in different ways. his is mindless blather. He was coming out of the Crown Poker room in Melb when the Millions wereon as i was coming in. I casualy said G,day he replied in a friendly normal way no Mindless blather that's good enough for me.
I still havent made up my mind On Jimmy Fricke placed 2nd to Gus at the Millions in 07' genius or Fishcake mmmm dunno ill work on that 1 Bill Chen is awesome i always chat to him when im online and see him on Stars. He always says hello, Brilliant guy, and always happy to have a chat Classy guy very generous to his fans.
One guy whose act has got old is Scotty(im too big for my boots)Ngyuen. Did anyone catch his drunken Rant at the H.o.r.s.e even at the w.s.o.p i heard about it and the verdict was'nt pretty. what a venue to choose to Blow up lol anyway like the post ill keep an eye on this 1 wd Damon789 A.k.aSteamer107

You are right he does talk to much and goes of the topic alot, but i think thats all part of his game the more he talks, i think he's trying to get info, but he takes it a little to far,but it is all starting to get old, He is very entertaining thou, between him and Antonio, and
elezra the side betting thing is kinda ridiculous, i know their gamblers but when ur at the poker table u don't stop the action to bet on how many push-ups u can do as they did on HSP, Daniel (kid poker) is a little to cocky for me i now he is good and so doesn't every1 else, but i think besides him predicting what u have for cards, he playes the weakest hands, gets lucky and then thinks he did something good, thats just my oppinion thou. PHIL (pokerbrat) love em or hate em, he's very entertaining, has his tantrumsand plays very good poker when he's hot. I really think Dwan is the next rising star, he's young and has alot of skills, i think alot of players will be fearing him in the future.

Being a southern born country boy Daniel Negranues voice gets on my nerves when he talks at the table some times. I think hes one of the best (consistant) players out there though and has great manners at the table and Ive never seen him get mad or in a big fight with anyone. Just that voice, ahhh.
I am also an avid Phil hater. Just can't stand that whinny crybaby jackass.

The only thing I would say to Laak and Esfandiari is "Get a Room!" O ya, they did, back in the old days...
I like the game this week. Laak is a great comic foil against the nit Safai to his right and the wunderkind Dwan to his left...
Dwan is the one I am watching most... his play is fascinating, more bent on creating situations positionally than cards... Hellmuth is bent on set mining and trapping...
And ya Laak's huge overbet on the str fl draw? It's all show business... One of these days he will have it and get paid off...

I could see how he could be annoying to people, but it is TV and without characters like Laak it would be pretty boring. I've seen poker on TV where the table talk goes quiet for awhile, and really is boring to watch. So I think we need the Laaks, Hellmouths, Negraneaus, and the Matasows on TV to help make our favorite sport entertaining to watch.

meh i think his talk is funny lol.

as for his raise when he had J10 of clubs where he flopped the straight flush draw, thats pretty standard play. Theres nothing wrong with it. Id stack off with it, so def. not an idiotic raise

I just love the fact that Bob Safai raises with 5c2c UTG+1 after Hellmuth limps, and calls when he reraises. Flop comes AK5 and Safai check-calls, turn is a 2 where Safai check-raises all-in. So glorious, he played afwul

Granted I didn't watch a whole lot of the week's play. None of last week, but Laak was truly annoying at points along with Esfandiari constantly repeating the same thing after someone folded a hand. I think it was something like "Way to go kid". Maybe he's trying to mock out Laak, but it was still annoying.

You can't blame Bob for pressing, and playing the 52 at that point because it seemed he didn't win a hand all week. By the way, who was the winner of the two weeks?
