This surely has to be Phils best WSOP series ever?

I truly believe he deserves a bracet this year most defiantly! Played some great events with two second places, he's surely gotta win! :D
jinx imo .... huge sigh :(

Helmuth with over 7mil in chips now!! WoW!
bridge.. I'll bet you.. but I'd like some odds please. We could bet with FTP $'s if you want?

How much did we bet again? I forgot.

Jokes aside, Helmuth played it very well, but no luck heads up.

HE had a 5:1 chip lead at one point and Rast doubled up with AK vs a naked FD, then doubled up against another flush draw and last hand he had KQ vs 8d2d on a 9TJddx board

So brutal. That one has got to hurt. Phil had Brian down 5:1 at one point, and just couldn't close the door on him - why? - I think Phil lost the discipline he showed for the entire series and got bracelet fever.

Although, $1.06M will buy a bunch of 25-year Mcallan's to soothe his pain.

I do think Phil has proven a point this year. He is a very good all-around card player and one of the best in the world. Here's hoping he doesn't screw it all up by making a stupid showboating entrance at the Main Event.

Ya 1 million bucks and leading player of the year. Who'd have thunk it?

Open-ended + flush draw on the 82 hand -- I don't really think anyone can blame Phil for playing it that way. Huge hand heads up. UL to run into the nut straight.

He got "unlucky", but that's still not Phil's game to put so much in on flush draws. Phil played great until then when Rast owned him in the huge pots and the huge decisions. $1m is nice for Phil, but it's not like he's hurting for money. When Phil and Erik and Juanda get heads up, they win the bracelet. More than that, they act with class when they lose, which Phil again didn't do. He gave no credit to Rast and instead just moaned about getting unlucky over and over.

Congratulations to Brian Rast, a true high-stakes player and shining poker star!

As far as the ESPN3 coverage... they just need better announcers. They don't need hole cards to make the coverage interesting. What they also need to do is open the access to everyone. There are too many US players who are shut out because their ISP doesn't offer ESPN3. I had to get it off a European feed, but it actually worked quite well. It really was amazing to watch last night live instead of just following on twitter and PokerNews.

Yeah I fell asleep when it was 3 handed, too bad for Phil. Just incase anyone wants to know who's ISP wouldn't broadcast it... if you or your kid has an XBOX 360 than you can watch ESPN on it from the video marketplace.

Wish I could have seen it all, I watched up until 4 handed until about 1am or so. Had an 8:30 meeting at work this morning so couldn't stay up later.

I watched the ESPN3 feed (props to my ISP), and I didn't mind the lack of hole cards especially once Lon and Antonio took over as commentators. Busque and that other guy didn't do much for me.

if you or your kid has an XBOX 360 than you can watch ESPN on it from the video marketplace.
Does it not require a paid Live subscription, like Netflix? That's what I had heard, don't know if it's true. My 360 collects dust and I refuse to pay for a sub.

It does require you to be a Xbox 360 Live Gold member I guess, but you don't have to pay for ESPN separately like you do for Netflix.
At least I'm pretty sure you have to be a gold member. I just bought this Xbox a month ago and a friend bought me a 3 month Xbox live membership. I hadn't even used the ESPN application until last night.

To watch netflix on my xbox i had to put in my netflix email/password, for the espn thing it does not require any email/pass.

They were pretty much even when it got to HU, but Phil then went on to dominate the HU match (90% + of it anyways)...then boom... Boom.. BOOM! (it was all over quickly as Rast doubled thru twice to make them even, then won final hand when Phil rrai into the NutStraight.. with a FD & OESD (< which was obv. no gd seeing as Rast held KQ nut strt)
He got "unlucky", but that's still not Phil's game to put so much in on flush draws. Phil played great until then when Rast owned him in the huge pots and the huge decisions. < maybe.. but I thought it was generally Phil putting Rast to the 'decisions' (although the last one was obv. real ez LOL) $1m is nice for Phil, but it's not like he's hurting for money. When Phil and Erik and Juanda get heads up, they win the bracelet. More than that, they act with class when they lose, which Phil again didn't do. meh.. so Phil got emotional (a bit) when he lost. Is it really that surprising? He'd already taken '2nd' place in two other events (#12 bracelet kept evading him.... just barely).. then to have a HUGE lead, dominate the match for 90% of it, then go out quickly... I think that'd be a bit of a bummer.. no?
I'm not a huge Phil Helmuth fan or anything but do enjoy watching him play & also find it entertaining. Yes he can go over the top at times, berating other players & moaning about great injustices done to him. It's just who he is. From what I've heard (fwiw) he's a really nice person away from the tables - generous, genuine, kind & caring. I think a bracelet win in the Players Championship would've been great for Phil (& for poker).... especially seeing as it seems he has the POY wrapped up now with his 2nd place finish.

yea i didnt see it but i wouldnt blame phil at all for taking that one kind of harshly and acting like phil...but thats just him...i kinda feel bad for him cuz despite all the evidence that pretty much prooves he's the greatest NL holdem player in the world, people just dont take him that seriously because of how he acts..its unfortunate because from the way he talks when he's not whining, he seems like a very reasonable and honest/caring person, but since he's always being 'phil' wen the cameras are on him, he gets a bad rap..i know he basks in the whole 'poker brat' thing but wen he actually loses something big u can see his true desperation showing...he's great tho i really hope he wins his 12th...

also, am i the only one who thinks that to win the POY u had to have won at least one bracelet? it just seems odd that even without a bracelet someone can win POY...not trying to take anything away from phil, im just saying it'd b really ironic if he's doomed to 2nd place finishes this year...i think if he gets HU in the main event and loses he'll kill himself lol...i kinda hope the only bracelet he wins is the main event

before i say anything, i wanna commend u on the sig and avy...barksdale was the best, but avon definitely earned his respect no doubt....snoop and chris were the shit...

but yea u dont think he's the best? im not saying all around poker player, im saying specifically NL Holdem...the man has more bracelets in ONLY nl holdem, thany ANYone else holds in ANY other poker game...if that alone doesnt mean enough to u to convince u then idk...who do u consider the greatest? he understands the game better than almost anyone

Yeah snoop was amazing, the actress who played her did prison time pre-The Wire on murder charges

Ivey
Durrrr
Galfond
PA etcetc

Don't get me wrong, as much as I dislike Hellmuth he is obviously very, very good at large field nl mtts and extracting value from players who aren't very good, but I'd take people like moorman and gboro over Hellmuth

Disclaimer - I really know nothing about poker

Agreed, Hellmuth is very much a Hold'em MTT specialist, although maybe his mixed game is improving since he made it so deep in this event. But plenty of players are better at NLHE in general.
