PH began proving how good he is when he won his first wsop bracelet. He was the
youngest ever to win and, I think, he began to usher in a new era in the game. He
knows the value of publicity and image. He makes everything he does pay off for him.
He's a PR person's best dream/worst nightmare rolled into one.

Without a doubt, one of the best players, ever. Also, without a doubt, one of the
world's leading jerks. I've said it elsewhere, but I think he's got "issues" that can only
be solved with professional help. He goes way over the top at times. It can't all just be
an act.

In my opinion, there are underlying problems. Why would a person put him/herself in
and through the situations he does? For the money? To a point, I know it's for the
money. Beyond that point, problems.

I love to watch him. I enjoy his play, but mostly I'm sitting there waiting for him to "do
something" and start the fun.

I've seen him say what you quoted, twice I think. I think he honestly believes it.

I've got 2 of Phil's DVDs. They're good. Filled with great info and insights into the game. Phil comes across as a likable person and a disciplined player.

So what happens in a tournament? I supect it's part act and part real steaming. I saw him on a televised tournament recently (of poker book authors) and he really seemed to go off following a bad beat.
