Phil is great I will not and could not argue that.
He has proved himself in NLHE poker.
As far as variance goes dont think he does much other than NLHE.
But he certainly is A great player hands down.

hahahah phillip is not the best. The guy never adjusts his play against uber agro young players hahah, I wanna see a table with dwan, shammas, blom, laak,hellmuth,tony g. I love tony g and everyone there I even like helmuth for the blow ups of course. the guy is pretty annoying though more than half the time I see him get his money in with not the best hand and he complains to the player"omg you call with 65 off out of position" um ya phil its 2013 you cant just play premium hands anymore and not see flops for cheap or sometimes play trash. look at dawn sure his BR has probably been cracked as did blom but those guys could have walked away at any point being millionaires with 10 mill id say. love watching loose aggressive players, Do I play like that sometimes depending on the scenario. Think this is the first helmuth thread I have seen actually here. lol love it

phil hellmuth is a very good player but by far not the best. no one is the best as the best is always yet to come. another new player will enter or anothers run will prove fortunate.
Its like this, Im the next best poker player. truly. just havent realised it yet.

Welcome to the CC and we will know is this Phil if he starts arguing about criteria we used to define best and not best

Don't think anyone can be considered the best. If they were you'd see them make the final table in the wsop Main Event every year, or at least get close year after year. There are great players, and Phil is definitely one of them.

Great poker player obviously, his reading skills and accurate person judgement make him unstoppable in early stages of a tournament.

when he is playing high stakes in the same games I dont think he does himself any favours neither do I think he has the motivation or work ethic to win another many more major events given his past glory and attitude towards other players and his lifestyle

Phil is the best NL Holdem MTT player around. Don't have to like the guy, but can't argue with the results.

Phil is very good on tournaments but not so good in cash games

It's funny but when he donks another player..it is well played.
But when another player donks him....wow it is the worst donkey play ever(In Phil's mind).
All the pros are good..that's why they are pros.

ok lets end it by saying, phil is the greatest tourney player to ever play, and you cannot argue that. You cant argue with the bracelets. But for the cash games, he isn't even top 50 id say. Hes a NIT! ahhaha

I love (sarcasm) how everytime Phil Hellmuth is 3 betting weak he cries as he gets 4 bet from a better hand.. The show he puts on is so old.

He's still one of the top 5 most entertaining players in the game. Love him or hate him, he is a great poker personality, so much so that he demands his own threads when he's on tv Some people don't like his game, and while his style isn't that of most online pheonoms he has a style that works for him and has won him 13 bracelets. IMO Phil Hellmuth is a great player but feasts on beating up on the weaker players. I don't think he has much of an edge if any against some of the top young talent, but the guy can play the game.

I have to agree with 1ofTheFellas in that Phil is still a mastermind at WSOP tourneys. I also agree that he can get eaten alive at the tougher tables, but I bet all of us would playing with the class A+ players in a full ring game. He can be a real ass sometimes, but those bracelets speak volumes about his game when he's not tilting off his money. He can back his talk up at least even when he's dead ridiculous some(most) of the time on t.v. anyway.

He is super passionate about his game which is what makes him so successful. If you can talk smack and also back it up then just move side and let the man work.
