Peelies "Challenge to the Challengees to Take their Challenges elsewhere and stop....

making me read the opening post, no-one cares, start a blog or something" Challenge Thread!!!!!!!!

Challenge threads are making me lol so much atm.

Except from dsvw's of course, his was interesting b/c he could actually do it.

All the posters that are like "$0 - $10k In 3 months Challenge Thread" are seriously deluded lol and all the people that follow each challenge (for challenge read, hugely improbable goal) should read better threads, like the HA section for example.

For this very reason i'd like to jump in the flux-capacitor and shoot chris ferguson, if he hadn't started his own challenge then the whole poker forum community wouldnt have jumped on the band wagon. Thanks chris, for showing the world that anybody can build a roll from scratch, what you didnt say is that not everybody has to tell the rest of the world about it, and that the average person on a forum cares more about whether his pants are a bit moist after his morning fart than he cares about your challenge, even if he does say good luck to build up his post count for the freeroll club.

Goals in poker are much needed imo but at the same time they need to be realistic and actually have a chance (for chance read, a percentage that isn't preceded by a decimal point and four 0's) to succeed, nobody likes it when they don't meet a goal they have set themselves and insane challenges like these can't be doing anything for the challengee's confidence or mental stability. I'm worried about them, really.

Whatever happened to goals like, this month i'm going to break the $100 mark, i'm going to move up to 10nl and stay there for longer than 4 sessions, i'm going to focus on playing more from position this month etc etc they're good goals, and they're doable, so at the end of the month you could look back and say, yeah, i done that, instead of, man i'm still like $9,989 off my target and i've only got 2 months to go, i'm such a failure!!!!

I might start my own challenge thread where i hunt down challenge triers at 2nl and beat them, note: if they ever make it to 10nl then its more likely that they'll beat me b/c i think i fell over and landed on a doomswitch at about the time i moved up.

Rant over, I think i woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, apologies but there really is a new one popping up everyday that fades into obscurity within a month, it's comical but rather annoying too b/c i'm compelled to read the opening post on all of them to laugh at how improbable the particular dream is.

For the most part I agree Peelio.... However we have 1 or 2 that are worthwile. DSV's is good and I remember Christc's last year which had a cult following. There was one on Blonde poker a few years back which was really good and got me playing on Stars as a result.

Sometimes I think a lot of the 'challenge' originators really believe they can do it ... at least for the first 4 or 5 days ... :D

I don't think you have to worry much about them. Facing their failures, it's just time for them to slink into oblivion and reload.

online poker (for many) isn't about 'reasonable' goals. It's all about watching ESPN and Travel Channel and knowing that they too could take down the $1.5million First Place win. It's easy. Two hours of one WPT event and it's all over, winner decided. It's all about the lure of 'get rich quick'.

So many players play online poker like bingo or the lottery, it only makes sense that their thinking is similar. Nobody buys a lotto ticket to win the 3 of 6 payout for $112 ... they buy their tickets planning on winning the $9million matching 6 of 6.

Have some breakfast, a few more cups of coffee, check your e-mail and come back to the forum. There should be a new 'challenge' thread posted by then ...  :D

95% of challenge threads = Posted by attention hounds who usually don't have a clue.

5% = Actually are realistic and interesting. I wish there were more.

Well said. I Challenge you to prove it within a year or 100K hands or enough FR wins to buy a Maserati!

^ This.

Why does it really matter if you think the goal is improbable? I realize you may not find them possible or whatever but do keep in mind that you don't exactly have to read them

I dunno, sometimes they are good for a few laughs:

"Freeroll Challenge: I'm going to win enough in fr's by tomorrow afternoon to buy the Denver Broncos! Will update often! Wish me luck!"

do keep in mind that you don't exactly have to read them
Then you might miss out one of the few awesome ones - he did cover that, if you read enough of the OP... ;)

Well what exactly can you do about it then? Tell everyone that unless their challenge is awesome not to do it

I read the OP but it just kinda seems like its impossible to know if it will be good or not and that's just kinda the risk you take when you read them

I don't mind a challenge thread, but I don't like it when people show up to CC just to use it as their blog. Recently guy failed in one challenge so just started a new bigger one, give me a break.

vv I think dsvw said he had been a winner up to 200nl.

I don't think the biggest problem is just the fact that he has to read the posts, but the fact that the challenges are basically impossible. To someone who has not already had some success in micro/low-stakes games at least, going 0 to 10k in 6 months is incredibly incredibly rare. It just plain takes longer than that to advance through the limits, learn, get better, and get to the point where you can win 10k. There are a few that can do it and I believe players like Durrrr made it through the limits very very fast, but then again that's why he's playing so high. If you're currently playing freerolls, the odds of you making 10k in the next 6 months is just so close to 0 it's not even funny. But for someone like dsvw who has played at least up to 50nl I believe (forget if it was higher) and had success it is extremely doable.

Think it was 100nl ;).

But yeah i agree with Peeleo to a certain degree.
People that a playing 1$sng or freeroll shouldnt be focusing on making 10K, they should be focusing on improving there game.
Putting monetery goals like that could hurt your game more then help it.
If your under pressure about making atleast 500$ this month you might be making sub optimal decisions when your down(chasing draws with out odds because u have to win this pot) or playing scared when your up(OMG! i cant go all-in with these aces cause i could lose and be forced back to the freerolls)

But if all these challenge would stop u would also miss out on the rare good ones...
