This is a discussion on Is patience a requirement for poker? within the online poker forums, in the General Poker section; Do you think it is an essential virtue for the game of Poker? And if you did not have this virtue, how could you manage
Hello, patience is the main thing to play poker. Both for when we are at the table and when making money, because if you don't have patience it is very difficult to carry the game. The truth is that to reach this virtue is by practicing your patience so you will achieve it.
Do you think it is an essential virtue for the game of Poker? And if you didn't have this virtue, how would you manage to cope with it and get better results in the game?
Of course patience is one of the most important virtues to play poker, if you do not have it you will not last long in tournaments and you will not make good decisions in your game because you want to obtain results very quickly based on emotional decisions.
With patience you can better analyze your game and your opponents, you can also wait for a good moment to double down on your game, waiting for that opportunity to go amassing chips little by little without haste.
If you are one of those who do not like to play long tournaments due to lack of patience, it is better that you play sit & go of 18, 27 or 45 players that are short or play turbos tournaments if you are an aggressive loose player.
this one is a no brainer, if you lack patience and resilience mental fortitude, you will fail when it comes to endurance poker which is tourneys. to be able to play 8-16 hrs or more you need to be relaxed patience and have a game plan. it is not easy to go on hrs playing poker but if there is a passion for the game you will excel
Of course, it is proven that the more patient and calculating you are, the better you can play and dominate your more impatient opponents. Patience is one of the greatest virtues that can exist not only in poker but for all aspects of life. Regards.
I believe that patience is absolutely a fundamental virtue in poker. It is so important that it is unavoidable, it cannot be replaced by any other virtue. Impatience is a lack of humility, without humility there is no success!
I would say that you do need some patience or else you will be throwing your money to the wolves....I usually wait for decent hands and that takes patience and determination...Good luck to all in your games.
I think patience and discipline are two important things in poker to become a good player. Wait for a decent hand and profit from the opponents' mistakes.

I can't remember a good day in poker when I won by losing patience, anyone ever? So, patience is a pillar of poker. Losing your patience means impatience and often fury, like this you won't make your best decisions.
I would say that it is the most important virtue in this game. It is very easy to lose patience when not getting good hands and this would undoubtedly lead to failure. You just have to be patient and have a strong mentality in this beautiful sport.
I agree with the comments which say it's very important - I would put disipline (which encompasses an element of patience , but also being willing to get the money in when you should but don't want to) ahead of patience though.
A patient person will not make bad decisions because of boredom or tilt. He knows that his time is still coming and he shouldn't be exchanged for petty emotions associated with any particular failure at the poker table.Patience is strength. It is the ability to distance oneself from negative emotions, the ability to wait, observe, and knowing when to act.
There is no other fate than that which we choose ourselves!
if you run out of patience, in other words, interest, I think it's worth taking a break, and in my case, I act like this, I qualify for an expensive tournament, and try to make money, the best motivation is if you don't have the patience to play fap-limits for years
i dont know about patience, but one thing i learn is essential is not getting tilted. once i was doing very well at a home game, winning a lot, but one hand turned everything around, i got tilted. and i lost a huge hand, than i was furious lost another big hand, so a left the table. i finished with a decent amount
