when i play live and lose 100 bucks it bother me too much and if i win 500 it just feels kinda good, but online if i lose 10 or 20 bucks i get very mad and depressed and if i win alot it feels really good.
is this normal? maybe because i see the amount of $ online and not live

I've only played live a couple of times, but I definitely like it better than online. It's probably not the case but it seems that I lose often to loose aggressive players online even when I have a good hand. It seems like they hit that really horrible starting hand. When playing live I have never seen anyone push with mediocre hands, which seems to happen often online. Any thoughts?

A friend of mine suggested that it was the poker sites way of making money by "letting" the loose players win because they play lots of hands thereby increasing the rake.

I usually don't rebuy online either, do the initial addon and the addon at break, even if I don't make it past the first 5min. gg me.

As for playing higher stakes live, yeah I do the same even the last time I went to the casino think I had like 400$ total and sat at the 2/4 limit game after buying in for 100.

Also used to play in a weekly home game and after adding on rebuying and entering the bbj could easily be in for 100$ yet I've never played any tournament higher than 20$ online.

Probably because you would be hard-pressed to find micro stakes live. So you go into the casino knowing you're going to be spending x-amount of dollars, with the possibility of losing it. I do find it's the opposite for me though, in regards to live $ vs. online $, because I see the cash leave my hand to buy the chips and that same money is gone if I have a bad day at the tables, and I get the instant gratification of cash in my hand when I cash out.

Your friend is wrong. Also, play more live, and you'll see plenty of sick beats with mediocre hands.

This is pretty standard, and it's pretty much the same case for me. I've had nights where I've walked out of the casino down $600 and it stung a bit but it was hardly the end of the world. If I lost that much online in one sitting though it'd be a HUGE deal.

The difference in stakes accounts for most of it, I think - live I'm playing $300NL, whereas online I'm playing something like $10NL, so it's a matter of two buyins vs 60 buyins.

I also am more money to spend more money playing live than online. I think there are two reasons for this. First, you can find much smaller stakes online than you can playing live. Secondly, I feel when I'm playing live poker that I'm partly paying for an experience or a night out with friends. Whereas, when I'm playing online, I only feel I'm playing poker and I also take more pride in doing well and building my online bankroll.

Online is rigged IMO. I'll stick to live. I get more enjoyment out of live play anyway.

For me it's the opposite. I can throw $500 bucks very easily online because the action is so fast that you didn't even notice, but live I can control my losses a lot more easily.

im funny cuz i just dont want to deposit just go from 0 to hero
made lotta bankrolls, but its been yrs hard work
i dont want to give it away, and it hurts when you lose a chunk

now I can go to the casino and blow a hundred+ and not think about it
and the same out with friends

so my online $$ is worth more than real cash
and real money i go and throw away...go figure

I think nothing of buying into a live tournament for $100 sometimes more and see it as a one off investment. If I lose I walk away and if I win I use the profit to do something nice for me and my family. I would rarely if ever buy into an online tournament for $100. My buys tend to be much smaller than this and when I win the cash goes into poker site bank. I then use this to play other games and build my bankroll. So I agree with you that online winnings mean more to me because I operate a bankroll management system whereas in live games I do not work within bankroll management rules.

If your money is in a different currency possibly 1000 online and 1000 live could be very different.

It's not worth more but it's very easy to go bust Online because of the auto-rebuy and all the stakes are at a click of the finger. Live is less convenient to rebuy-go higher stakes etc... Casino just walk up and register simple.

I would say it seems more online because of the fact you can see your bankroll online and just the chips in front of you live. Just my opinion.

This was the same for me for many years. (online $'s in my poker bankroll was worth more than gold!).
Not sure when things changed for me... might've been once I got a skrill account or may have been after staking out thousands of dollars online.
I think I still value the online funds a bit more than money in my pocket.. but the difference is nothing like it used to be.

i'm just starting out online, and after reading about poker hacks i just stick to the 1-5 dollar Sit N Go's. They're more enjoyable IMO than big tourneys

i feel live i will buy in bigger amounts cause i know i will get paid if i win. i tend to only deposit little if anything at all to sites online so i am not risking much if the site doesn't pay. i prefer to play freerolls and build my bankroll online.

I can feel this way too but the reason why i will buy in for more live is because the higher the buy in usually the better structure, you get to see people face to face and enjoy the true poker experience. The reason why a similar win may feel better to you is because you're only allowing yourself to play for say a 10th of the buy in online so you're beating more runners which is much more satisfying!!
