Hi everyone, my name is Melinda Morgan. I’m a PhD student in psychology at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, ON, Canada, under the supervision of Dr. Celine Blanchard. I’m doing an online study investigating Decision-Making in Poker Players for my dissertation. I’m an avid player myself and love this game.

All poker players are welcome at any skill or experience level. If you are interested in taking part, here is the link: https://www.psychdata.com/s.asp?SID=133190 It takes about 20 minutes or so to complete the online survey. This study is completely anonymous.

Please feel free to share the link with any of your poker buddies!

Take care,

Melinda

I took this one and it is much better than the others ones we have seen. It is primarily about playing poker instead of gambling so we will leave this one up.

I started to do the study but whoever came up with these poker game situations is a donkey. I cannot put myself in these situations because the first 4 or 5 situations include terrible pre-flop decisions which i would never make. i would suggest you get a better than average hold em player to come up with new table situations. These are situations I would never be in because I would not have even played the hands pre-flop so i would not be in a situation where I have already committed chips with these suited connecters when out of position so therefore the hold em table scenarios would never apply to my game.

Agree on the pre-flop situations moeraj - but this study is still far better than any others we have seen which were total crap.

I've not seen the other studies but I think it still makes this study obsolete because it only applies to bad players. Even good lag players don't smooth call raises with suited garbage. If you're a tag player you see few flops but you play them aggressively when you do play. Therefore no good player,in my opinion can give any insight into their decision making thought processes in these examples.

Your test is biased.

In the general info section you ask for the limits we play and include:
[ ] I do not play ring games
Yet the next question asks what level tourneys we play and
[ ] I do not play stupid ass tournaments
is not an option!!!

Fix your test or I'll be forced to invalidate all results. :)

If Debi says this is worthwhile I'll give it a go.

There have been a lot of gambling addiction ones which were difficult to make any sense out of, but if this is better I'm on my way there.

I took the quiz.

I think it would be interesting to have everyone classify themselves, then ask the situational questions to see if they actually play the way they think do.

Thanks for your input...I hope I'm not a donkey:p I wanted to create situations where you are not necessarily in with the best cards. While I don't endorse calling pre-flop with crap in early position, I just want to see how you would answer given the situation and the available info. Hope that helps explain a bit my rational when coming up with the situations.

I applaud you for your efforts Melinda. You've clearly put some effort in to this and taken the time to at least understand the poker culture which is a lot more than most people who post their surveys here do.

does the word hypothetical mean anything to you?

anyway, that was probably the best one of these survey things that we get people plugging here every now and then that i've done, so good luck with it OP.

i wonder perhaps given the context of the survey whether the slow page load is actually deliberate.

Completed it; didn't notice the slow page loading. My short attention span prevented me from reading the passage closely - maybe that was the point.
