After reading this wikipedia about various ways cheating can happen in Poker. is this something to be cognizant of when playing? I don't often see 2 of the same players repeatedly at the same tables, but that doesn't mean they arent changing names.

With how small some of the US sites are for online poker it seems concerning this could be going on. Does anyone have any first hand experience being victim to cheaters and what do you do to look out for it?

Thanks all,

It would be unrealistic to think that collusion doesn't happen a lot in online poker with all the money involved and how modern technology has become. Player playing often at the same table doesn't mean they are colluding, in a lot of cases they are just regs. Look out for how they play each other or when they are involved in a pot, if u suspect something then report it to the moderator. In all honesty there's very little you can do to stop collusion online.

What can you do when you think you have been cheated or feel that there are 2 players colluding in online poker? You can confront the players, but this is useless. The cheaters will do one of a few things when accused at the table.

1. They won't answer and will tone down their cheating at that table for the moment.
2. They will deny it and say that you are just whining because you lost.
3. One or both players will flee the table and move on to their next victims.

it s very easy to cheat with other players, bots or even using multiple accounts online, the best thing you can do is report it and leave the table... not much can actualy be done unless they have multiple complaints agienst the users, and alot of times they will just create new accounts, collusion happens at live poker alot as well. I have been approched by regulars at live games i played in to help them cheat, i tell them to get lost and stay away from games they are involved in. if you cant win fair you mine as well rob people for a living, poker players should be above cheating.

is very difficult that to happen, especially in major theaters in line because they have a lot of security and software is ready for any action of deception or cheating.

If I see two players looking like they may be colluding I make notes as, so so playing with etc, That way if some time I see them on the same table making strange play again, I'll have some idea that there's a good chance they are cheating. So far I haven't ran into this. Take care

I have seen the chip dumping as well. It is unfortunate, but what can you really do besides reporting it.

if you suspect something you report it of course. Here is the thing if I have a person on my shoulder when playing giving advice is nothing you can do about that is a risk you take and am positive things like that happen. I have NEVER witness a bad case of collusion worst thing in last month was a guy had to leave so was trying to give chips to a friend hole table knew it other guy kept losing lost whole stack guy wound up losing his stack to another guy playing 7-4 is some justice in poker that night I guess lmao that was bet online and was really funny and kinda tragic I had the chip lead didnt really care had over 100k was card dead for the 8 minutes of this and they both together had 32 k of chips so no worries to me as like whatever just funny the one guy loses over and over haha till busts with good hands and the other gets crushed by crap hand.

next you are talking a group or couple people dumping honestly I would report it I would monitor it and prove it if ever saw it somehow. The bot thing I hear a lot but HOW MANY BOTS have any of you ever seen WIN. I see some europeans that people call bots cause dont talk ultra aggressive had a guy tell me about one on bet online guy raises every hand will get chip leads 99% of time he loses entire stack in 20-40th spot every time and ive witnessed it now twice is pretty funny.

I have never seen a bot win same people when I final usually 7-10 of them are same guys regularly now im doing freerolls and super small buy ins.

Only playing again last six weeks but played online 50 sites for 5 years and barely saw cheaters did run into some on jet set poker and emailed support cause they had a bot that could play that site and after losing to same group a few times all ins 2-4 junk big money events and they would hit the nut flops etc.. i had to take steps.

NOTE jetset said was working on it and than they shut their doors at midnight one day stealing everyones money:(

I think every law loophole, but as a fellow says there is enough security and technology to meet those things do not happen or happen as possible.

It most certainly happens. While stationed in Japan I knew a guy that would play poker on the same table with his roommate wired to different internet routers so that they wouldn't have matching IP's.

Unfortunately, such cases are yet to occur. But if we take into account the number of games that take place daily in the network, and the number of participating players and match them with the amount of fraud, it is clear that such facts are still extremely rare. Reputable poker rooms have millions revenues are interested to play them exclusively conducted honest methods.

might not seem like much, but seriously you can get in some deeeeeeep stuff if your caught... and people are trying and hoping to catch you. all i can say is this is the downfall of any online poker, because you will NEVER know REALLY who is colluding/how many are involved...

this is a common thought in my mind:
Say i was working/owned/ made a software for players to deposit and play..
what keeps me from assembling a team / and playing in everything we put on, in hopes we have a high number of placers, therefore not only making money on the buyins but making that back from rewards for just playing..

obviously you can go all sorts of ways thinking about this but just a thought...

too easy to deceive, but who's to say its not being done.

It happens to me at pokerstars 4x-5x playing $1.5 fifty fifty a year ago. Pokerstars would detect collusion and reimburse portion of your buyin and email you about it but would not explain it in detail.

You see a bunch of russians sitting on a table there will be collusion. You see americans sitting on a table from the same state you probably going to run into collusion. Same for any other countries. If you see 2 to 4 of the same country on a table gl trying to beat them. They will go soft against each other and constantly 3b you. They will use all their cards as blockers to figure out when your bluffing or have it. Best thing to do is dont play ring games. If you do your going to be cheated. You will be lucky to find a fair play table 25% of the time these days. Before black friday there wasn't as much cheating as there is now since the players are better. More and more players are teaming up and cheating the other players out of their money .If you have to play a game pick 9 max. If you sit 6 max i guarantee you will be cheated and you will continue to lose. Part of why 6 max games are always full= its full of colluding players on several tables.

HAHA thats hilarious. They can't detect crap. I and other regs have reported SEVERAL players who were not removed. Obvious collusion and they site turned a cold shoulder. Teach these online poker sites a lesson and don't play until they can find a way to really clean it up.

This guys done it for years and now hes on acr doing it. And he plays he hsould be banned from all sites but hes allowed to do what he does.

There is no 100% safe system. Look at what the hacks did all over the world weeks ago. But do not let this kind of paranoid thinking dominate you. And if you distrust the room, switch to another. If you see something strange on the table that looks like collusion, look for another table.

Those who are a little older will remember the scandal at Absolut Poker.

Then why do you play online poker if you can guarantee that collusion is rampant.

Where did you get these facts, or is it just your opinion.

In before move to rigged Mega thread.

Thanks all,

I doubt that someone specifically can be a cheater. Rather, the system can be deceived. It is very difficult to understand the truth ... Judging by the experience I have, suspicions also begin to creep in, I have very frequent moves and tilt and I'm not sure that online poker can be trusted 100% ... Time will tell!

You do realize that Russia is a very large country, right? So it's possible to be 1000s of miles away from each other, but still be in Russia. Also, most US states are pretty big. Just because I may see someone from my state at the table (and it happens, California is a big place), doesn't mean I'm going to soft-play them. Why would I do that? I want to get max $$ from everyone at the table. Just seems you are being way paranoid.

Multiple accounts and collusion don't work very well, because of the rake. When you are building up a pot using collusion strategies, you are not just transferring money between your accounts, you pay rake on everything, not only the money you win from the cheated player. Not to mention that collusion does not guarantee winning, and when you lose to the cheated player after building a big pot, that hurts your bottom line. If the was no rake, collusion or multiple accounts would be the more prevalent, but with 5.5% rake on betonline for example, it is very hard to turn a profit using collusion or multiple accounts.

I disagree. Two or three players doing collusion at the same table makes it easy to cheat. Mainly makes it easy to read opponent's hands and possible bluffs.
