Online Poker itself is not addictive, addiction is a mental condition that affects a lot of people, something the player has or hasn't, the game itself can be addictive to some players that are susceptible to addiction.

I guess everything in our life is addictive. But the most addictive thing is money and thats why poker becomes addictive to some people that overrate the value of money. And moreover people mentally get addiction from game that can give us much pleasure. This the problem for new players that just come to poker indystry cause they eager to earn money but not for enjoying game.

i think poker itself is addictive, not really only online poker. Actually gambling is addictive. Online poker can just be played faster than table poker. I was addicted for a long time till i realized how addictive i was and then i stopped playing altogether. now i play when I want instead of playing because i can't stop.

I have been playing Poker for couple of years. I don't think, that I have an addiction. I just love this game and enjoy while playing it but I don't spend all my free time in the Net

Everything is addictive, especially when its that glimmer of hope on winning some money. But as long as you can control a habit, its often not too serious.

I think basically that if the poker prevents you to manter your social relationships and be with your family then yes, it's addictive.

Why Is Poker So Addictive?

I ask myself why Am I playing poker constantly? I think I got addicted to poker and this is no good because I'm dreaming with poker,I wake up thinking about poker and during the day too.Is this like a drug? Am I in overdose?

i just knew poker many months ago, and i loved the game in a second, for sure now im addicted to play online when i have free time, actually 80% of my free time i go play some poker, but i know its just temporary because i just knew the game, but im against it when Poker becomes the center of the Player's World and the cards, his obsession. The player becomes compulsive, isolates himself and forgets everything else: his family, his work, his other leisure ... Like a junkie, he sinks into his addiction.

Maybe if some people and others do not, that depends if the person stops making their essential commitments to be all day and all the time attached to the online game. As they say there must be time for everything. Time to your family, sports, friendships, entertainment, etc. And the most dangerous if you start spending your money in an uncontrolled way with the hope of getting rich in a short time playing poker.

Poker is addictive because it have a lot of good things that make us feel good, so how can something with a lot of good things be harmful? Poker is a game about our feelings. It can reveal all that ugly feelings that we have behinded in our mind and it gives us the chance to change and control them, becoming a better person. For me, poker is therapeutic.:top:

I only consider that it addiction a person when he only begins to lose everything around him, be it his family, money, job among others. It turns out that when we win, it releases dopamine into our brain, reward neurotrasmiter. for a person with tendencies to addiction, this is'nt good. now, if that person can control himself and to perceive when to stop, this can already be considered a control of his situation. But this does not only apply to those who are addicted. people with some emotional problem like depression or anxiety, tend to lose always due to illness.
I've already been through a phase like this in my life. Now I always seek relaxation before playing any game. I got lost, I learn, I won, great.

For eight years I still feel dependent on him, but I'm a little bit nervous as I get into the circle of some 500-600 people and I lose it regularly on tournaments, in the house of chaos, no one has the right to a computer, but me :), I mean that the next step will be to play stronger tournaments, to get the will to play, I remember that I did not leave the house, at the beginning, when I started playing, there were games for 15 hours a day.

Here's a tough question for you!

We all love to play poker or we wouldn't be here. But do any of you think you take it too far? Do you think you might be addicted to online poker?

Read this article and let's discuss poker addiction:

Online Poker Addiction

I think that 7-8 years ago I was bordering on addiction - because I often put playing poker before spending time with my husband. After Black Friday we agreed that I would play primarily live poker so that when I play I can focus on it - and when I am home I can focus on work and family. It has worked out very well for me.

Now I only play CardsChat games from time to time.

Let us know about your experience with playing too much.

perhaps the most interesting topics to be discussed !!
the truth is that the gambling addiction generally comes without getting it started with a simple bet with a friend you end up losing hundreds of your chips in casino poker etc.
earlier than I have many of my poker games I have as a hobby and to spend my time playing in her games CardsChat

Of course gambling is addictive! Anything where you can win or lose huge amounts of money is going to be exciting and just because poker has skill involved it doesn't mean that that thrill isn't still there. Controlling the urge try to blindly win money without thinking and considering the risks of what you are doing are some of the most important skills for all poker players attempting to win at the game.

Online poker is totally addictive. It’s like anything else...you need balance and need to recognize when you life is being negatively effected and make adjustments to put things back in balance. Also a major difference of people who are addicted and people who aren’t are people that lose so much money and feel they need to win their money back. It becomes about recouping a loss and not improving your poker game or having fun like it should be. People who are addicted also tend to succumb to TILT more easily.

thank God none of the answers to the questions are affirmative in my case at this time, There was a time when I really spent more time and money than I could, playing poker.

Now I really love playing poker but if I have to spend time with my family I do it, or if I have to do another activity I do it.

I learned not to spend on games after a very bad run at roulette, I even taked my children's savings to pay the bills.
but how as I quited smoking, I stoped playing compulsively too.

it's just a matter of willpower

I would definitely agree that it can be addicting. It is generally accepted that anything becomes an addiction when it causes substantial harm (bodily, personal life, work, etc.) and is repeated in spite of that. I think just liking to play a lot isn't enough, but if it causes problems with your relationships or your work, and yet you continue to play, it is an addiction.

The big problem is, while addiction may have a genetic component for some people, it can develop for others. So while you may not be addicted when you start playing, it may become an addiction later. Also, lots of people (myself included) like to play and either drink, smoke, do drugs, etc. which just multiplies the problem.

I've definitely had times where I played too much, but that would only last a couple weeks or so and then was able to stop and focus on other things.

I think poker is capable of becoming an addiction. I think the problem is not poker, because for those who like something, like it and it's over, I think it becomes an addiction when it affects us something. in my case was to stop being present with the Family and Friends. When I realized that poker was taking the places of family and friends, I simply acted. I believe we are all able to realize that poker is affecting us in something (becoming addiction) after all are we all adults?

poker is as addictive as any other game, it only depends on each individual the amount of hours of play. Personally, after the death of my husband, I took it as a refuge and was in front of the monitor incalculable amount of hours, today, and for work reasons that decreased to very little time.

I think any game can be addictive. but I do not consider myself an addict can stay days without playing without needing or lack of the game, I believe that if a person spend a week without playing and not feel this normal, now if the person can not spend a day without the game because it is necessary there maybe it should give a time because it is no longer normal.

The truth is that poker is addictive, whether we are on a winning streak or if we are going through a rough patch.
winning streak, we want to continue playing because we believe we can earn more money.
bad streak, we keep playing because we think it's bad luck and we're going to recover and win what was lost.
in any of the cases I think it is addictive but if we play it for real money.
that is why it is advisable to have a balance so as not to fall into addiction.

Online poker can be as addicting as any dopamine triggering activity. Being addicted isn't so miuch of a bad thing in poker. If you are winning that is. The problem is about categorizing it as an addiction is that it produces harmful affects. Otherwise the addiction stigma wouldn't stick. But poker in general has a stigma to be addicting. Because just like any addiction it is all about management. If you spend 10 hours a day for a week straight, and you are in the negative, maybe it's time for another hobby. Because for 99% of us that's all it will ever be. A hobby. Ya win some ya lose some and never play with more than you can afford to lose.

Then again, on the other side of the same token, online poker can still be addicting even for those of use who partake in freeroll tournaments. Although it is never good to obsess over any activity, freerolls serve as damage controll. Microstakes in general is better so those of us who waver with good streaks and bad streaks. If we never win we would never play. At least you would think so. Discipline is the most important factor in poker. One that should be valued over all else.

At friday i understood for sure that i am not addicted. Here is the story. Around 1 month ago i managed to qualify for the trip to vegas final in pokerstars scheduled to take place on 20.04 at 22:00 local time. It is by far the strongest tournament in which i have played as i only play freerolls and rarely manage to get in top 200. In the beginning of this week i was sure that at friday i will directly go home from work and prepare for the tournament. Ok but 3 days before the tournament i got sick and at friday i barely managed to go to work so i was not sure if i will even be able to play in it. To make things worse a friend called me insisting to be part of party for the refreshment of his apartment so i went all in and played the tournament sick, drunk and from my phone not being able to use my HUD. :D

I was close to the money but could not make it. Anyway the fact that i choose to be with my friends despite the fact that this tournament was important for me shows me that at least for now i treat poker as a hobby like every other of my hobbies and i am definitely not addicted. :D
