I started today at $950, so I figured I'd play some ring games tonight and who knows, if I have a good session I could break $1,000. Well I ran decently well besides AA being < QJ all-in preflop, but I ended up about $30 after about 1k hands (that's ~6 BB/100). And I decided to end for the night. But I didn't realize my VPP count for the month. It was at 3,986, so 14 more to get gold star. So I figure, why not play some HORSE, I really didn't feel like firing up the cash games, and I figure limit games usually end up hitting the high pots quicker, especially when you have 2 hi/lo games in there. I got extremely lucky, winning like $15 off this other guy in stud when I got dealt JJJ and ended up getting the last J on 7th street, we capped that street as my opponent had a full house Aces over Ts. When all was said and done, at the end of the session I was a gold star and had $1,005.08. Although I took the detour to $500ish, I made the goal 2 weeks before my initial goal (my original goal was start of Spring break, which is when we go to Florida for our baseball conference tournament) and a few days before my most recent goal. I'm actually planning to continue with 25nl though until the break, mainly because I'm aiming for $1,070 for the Harrington cash game books. As I mentioned in the other thread I'll be doing a video (take 4, fingers crossed it'll work this time) tomorrow morning at 25nl, and in general I just don't want to move up to 50nl until after I get back from Spring break, and then hopefully I can dive into it and play a lot of hands. Hopefully I don't run into a downswing and end up with less than $1,000 at the start of Spring break, but I'll take my chances. I really like the way I've been playing recently, I've been getting a lot more aggressive and been much better at recognizing (this recognition is a lot easier with the aggression as well) when I'm beat and folding accordingly. I'm controlling the pot size with marginal hands and I'm extracting good value from my hands when I hit. That doesn't mean I'm playing the best possible, and I'm definitely going to continue to work on my game and plug the smaller leaks. I'm just playing as good as I've ever been, and it feels great. It was a long road, but it was worth every step. 50nl here I come :)

Congrats to you on reaching you target.

Remember if you do move up do it in stages, test the water out before diving head first into it. :)

Congrats again :congrats:

Well done!!!! Just shows what can be done with good BR managment and a bit of savvy.

I shall take inspiration from this when I finally make my first deposit.

That's great, nice one on hitting your goal! :congrats:

However, I don't know how much your BR or the money means to you, but if I were you I would play NL25 until you've got $1,500+.
As you probably know, the swings in this game are insane and 20 buyins is the absolute minimum you need to have, imo.
Would you be playing a bit scared at NL50? I know I would if I only had a $1,000 BR.
Will you move back down if you go on a bad run?
Ive been on downswings were Ive lost 10+ buyins without doing close to ANYTHING wrong, and downswings like that would be absolutely brutal if you only have 20 buyins. Also, for me there is nothing more confidence crushing than moving up a level and running bad.

Anyway I'm a nit, and I'm sure you will do just fine. GL!

Well done m8, now for the 2K ;).

Take it easy with the move up to $50nl though, as your on the lower limit in terms of buy ins. Any signs of a few buy ins down, then don't be afraid to go back to 25nl. Don't waste all that time and hard work you have spent in building it up to 1k to jeopardize it at 50nl.

Having said that Zach I'm really impressed with your success. You identified a leak on your lickle downswing and you have acted on it and reaped the rewards. :congrats:

Yea aim noticing alot more regs and TAG players at $50NL.

Game selection becomes vastly more important here and also I would suggest cutting down on tables until you are comfortable and winning over a couple thousand hands.

Please learn from my mistakes :)
